"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Our view this morning from the motel balcony. :love

Very nice have a great time. Pam

yes indeed have a wonderful time....
as for the birds they are doing great....getting 3 peafowl today...one male and two female ib...so cant wait...they should be here around five pm

You should have good numbers I thought you were saying it had been high the whole time. Don't panic if they don't pip a day early like you calculated they might still take the full 21 days or more. Pam
Thank you "Layer Mama" Pam

You know I'm worried. I see now what everyone else goes through on their first attempt at a hatch.

I'd be in a better mood if I could get in touch with that breeder in Florida. :rant

@Cody A What day is it now? I get confused when I travel. Will you be able to hear them tapping? I loved it. It was so neat to watch one hatch, hear the tapping, then spin the bator and see three other eggs pipping. Like Christmas!!

You know I'm worried. I see now what everyone else goes through on their first attempt at a hatch.

Those first few hatches while you are learning what works for you can be really stressful. It took me ages to be able to just chill out. I have to knock of some rust as it is when I get this next hatch going. Some have found it helpful to read over this link about how and when to assist if you run into trouble. I personally like to know what to do if something doesn't go according to plan myself. Of course some people don't help chicks and think they will be weak and die anyways but I have not found that to be true at all and I have hatched hundreds and helped quite a number. I had to help the big fluff himself out, who ended up being too big for his egg and he has grown into one fine bird (This guy I showed the other day).

Hey Cody, yes I want the toe puncher. We'll talk later. Some of the books are to be read piecemeal. They are great, but will drive you crazy trying to weed through them. Have it available when you get ready to start choosing which birds to keep and which to cull. The hole punch is perfect. I've had one Blosl pullet that had it and the opening grows as she gets bigger. You might have to notch a tiny bit with a sharp knife to keep it from closing. Pay attention to the holes. Some never need it notched. I've had fun today separating out the XW's and Blosl's into new pens. I'm so small that this is not hard. lol. My two little black rocks are assumably pullets. They look like them and not much comb or hackle. 3 mo old or so. They are so docile that they are being beat up when I put them in with the other 5 birds who are also docile, (go figure) that I'm going to have them in the pen with the new chicks. Separately at first then integrating. Everything has been so slow, but I can see it coming together. I'm working daily outside to get the place cleaned up and more sightly. Since the upscale neighbors are bitching at the 5 gallon buckets and such sitting around. I'll be putting up a fence and running trailing flowers on it to I'll be putting up small fenced off runs for each coop when ever I can. The white rocks are so big that a 2' high fence is enough to contain them for a while to graze a little. Can't keep them in that too long. Just a treat. (Neighborhood dogs get out occasionally A happy productive day. :D Edited for content: BIG question: My incubator is making a lot of noise, almost like it wants to quit. Should I even attempt to put anything in there? It comes and goes. If I had any money in my acct today. Ha. I'd order some bantams on special. Must be a phone order and soon for 1/27 hatch. I'm afraid my Blue Australorp eggs are lost in USPS cyberspace somewhere. They were due Friday. Jim went to the main post office & they were clueless there - said they couldn't do anything until the package was scanned into a computer - -last time anybody "saw" sign of it was in Chattanooga. I'm just sick about it. I really wanted those eggs! if they show up tomorrow I'll still set them & hope. I sent an email to the seller just to let him know, but it wasn't his fault - he even made a special effort to ship the eggs ASAP after I bought them so they'd get here quicker & he sent me the tracking # immediately.

I'd be in a better mood if I could get in touch with that breeder in Florida.

Camping, it's day 19. I don't know if I'll be able to hear them peeping in the shells or not. The fan is kinda loud and sometimes the mechanism for the turner rattles from vibration. Something I'd like to remedy for the next hatch.

By the way I've been wondering what became of your cock with the comb issues. You figure that one out?

Looks like a nice warm spot where your at.
