Trying to see if I can increase hatch rate on the speckled sussex. I put river rocks in the water channels to help stabilize the temp, lowering temp 1 degree, increasing humidity to 45%, and hand turning three times a day by a third each time.
She's happy now, though. One of the white layers has adopted the chicks my last broody hatched. She clucks around the yard, sits on them when they're cold, and they all sleep in the nest at night. She's still laying, though. I'm pretty impressed because she's a production hybrid and not supposed to be motherly like that.Did u hatch her or buy her? I got a white chick out of my lastlegbar hatch. Thought I must have had a ee hen lay in the Legbar nest. She has gold colored chicks tho. I guess time will tell. I added the Jill Reese line to mine. If I listed all the breeds I have now your head would spin. Lol! Glad your doing well. If ever looking for rare breeds give me a shout I probably have them. Except for the rocks but the are from a top line. PamPam, guess what i have here, yep, you guessed it, cwl, Crested White Leghorn
Campining, something for you to goggle eye at, they are doing great
Some eye candy for the RIR worshipers here, total of 16 from eggs bought at The Tullos Poultry sawap
Last but far from least, in fact these are going to be bragged on a lot here in the comming months as they develope, exactly 1 year to the day from aquireing my first Domonique chick, these darlings started hatching on lockdown day and and been kicking it ever since, produced by my Dominique girls and the Dominique Roo i aquired after many months of searching for purity, we have came full circle together and now to start my improvement program, we hatched 16 of 18 on April 16th/17th, now have 15 more in the incubator due on the 16th/17 of may + 28 RedBrown Ameracauna SOP eggs and 6 DOM over WL eggs just for fun, in the other incubator, we have 24 FBCM over EE & White Amaracauna/ Silver Ameracauna eggs and 18 FBCMs eggs from my trio due on the 13th of May.
On another note and project, i had given this roo away before the first of the year, now he is back in full bloom, no pics yet, he will re-enter my EE program with his own few girls. I recently recieved back from a freind an olive egger roo from my Dec hatch, the first one, he has the blue ear lobes, plus i purchased back 5 OE pullets hatched from the same line of eggs who also have blue earlobes., The RIR roo i was giong to use as a breeder will only be used to prduce egg layers, in recent months i noticed a hump on his right back around the wing area, after examining, i found his right thigh about 3 fingers higher on his side than the left, he shows no limp nore has any problem but i do not want to take a chance of passing something genetic down from him to a for sale flock. I also have 1 trio of Buff Orpington, 1 trio of RIR, 1 trio of White Rocks, 1 trio of Buckeys, 1 trio of Brown Leghorns, 4 pullets 1 roo of GLW and 1 trio of SLW, 1 pair of blue Wheaten Marans if there is such a thing. OH, you want more news?? I have created my own Cream Legbar White Leghorn EE roo with the blue ear lobes, looks like a game cock, i have also got a barred EE pullet, I will quit here and let your minds rest, or mine, Now you know what has been keeping me away from BYC the last couple months and i am just barely getting started with the seperate pens needed for each breed, oh, i left some out by the way.
