"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Cody, this is one of my sweet little Dominique pullets

TD, the Doms are looking good. I'd definitely like to see them in person. It's the first breed I considered before I got my first birds.
Are they purebreds from a breeder? These are around 3 months old?

Thank you for posting pics. :)

My hat's off to you for taking care of your grandsons.

My main flock, and my Easter babies.

I'm having problems with my rooster. He jumped up and spurred me a few days ago when I handled a young rooster. Today I was walking around with my dog and the roo jumped up and spurred her in the haunches. She was heeled up to me and not bothering anything. So I wonder if he's just feeling extra protective because the flock is so big now? Is he feeling extra hormonal because of all the young roos coming up? I don't want to trim his spurs down because they free range, but they're almost longer than his toes now.

I guess I just feel bad for my dog because she's already pretty timid. She tucked tail and ran to the porch and then jumped up against the door until I let her in. She's a weimrador, half lab and half weimaraner.

I read some breeds get aggresive as they get older. I had the marens roo try that the other day. Ron Spanked his butt so to speak. :lau He hasn't tried anything sence, but I don't turn my back on him either. I also have a walking stick just in case he needs a reminder. Pam

I did the same, Pam, the last time he got me. I kicked him and he came back for more, so I punted him across the yard. Periodically I stomp my feet, flap my arms, and chase him a little. :lau

I was in the thick of the flock (they were hungry and underfoot) when he got me a couple of days ago. Same situation, thick of the flock, when he got my dog today. I'm hoping he's just feeling over protective. I saw him attempt to mount an EE pullet yesterday, so maybe he's feeling a little extra rowdy.

I hope so because I know you want to keep him. Sounds like he will be for sale or in the freezer . Pam

Camping, I read in a thread here, it was a rooster behavior thread but can't remember which one. This is what I do when one of my males gets a little squirrely with me. I grab the bird up and lay it on the ground, one hand on the body the other on the head, and hold it's head down to the ground. (You may need to hold the legs so you don't get spurred) Most of the time they don't struggle much and you really don't apply pressure to the head. I find that if I just cup my hand over the birds head and eye it will just lay there. Some you don't even need to hold the body down only the head. I usually hold it there for about a minute. They usually get up afterward knowing who's the boss. I wish I could find the thread. Will try to look later.

Thanks Cody! I've heard that too, and know it really helped a friend with an aggressive RIR. (It dances and him and brings him twigs, lol!) I just can't get hands on him. I'm not very nimble and his "attacks" are classic hit-and-run. I could distract him with food and catch him that way, for awhile, but he caught one pretty quick. If I throw food down he stays at arm's reach. Every time he's ever spurred anyone, it's been while my back was turned. I'm too focused trying to not squish biddies. :/

Sry I haven't been chiming in. I am in Georgia, my Mom passed away yesterday and I had come to be with her before she passed. But, I had to share with all of you a pic my husband sent me this afternoon of our first egg. And it is from our WL that had her comb damaged by our randy roo. My Mom would've loved to have seen that pic. She was waiting on her own first egg but the chickens weren't cooperating.

edited to add a pic of it in my husband's hand for reference. It is a nice size for a first egg :)
