Good to hear your still kickin and doing well. Good luck with your hatch.

I've got eggs In the bator also. Set thirty Bielefelder eggs only 10 have made it to day 14 today. 19 were not fertile and/or porous, one quitter. Will set this weeks eggs today to try and round up a few more to hatch. 4 cockerels and 10 pullets, the fertility ain't good. Laying is down also, 26 eggs this week.

Pam, my Barbezieux are doing great. Growing like weeds. I hope they make good weights for meat birds at 18-20 weeks. I don't want to start over with another breed.
These darn birds are so flighty though. They're about 10 weeks old now. I hope they mellow out when they get older or else they're gonna be a pain to catch.

Good luck to everyone that is hatching!!!

I have a broody on eggs too! I thought they'd hatch Tuesday, but I got one yesterday. Hoping the rest make it. I'm tempted to slip some extra chicks under her, but DH isn't on board. I honestly think he'd never notice, though. ;)

He won't notice. Can you keep quite and act suprized. Pam

Wish I had a hen that was broody. Sure would make it easier to raise and intro into the flock any chicks that hatch. This is my first incubation and about a week in the temp was accidently turned up and went to 104 for overnight. So lost two eggs, one early on, one midway and one was nonfertile. So, now at 5 that were viable last week. Will candle them tonight and put them on lockdown. If I am doing lockdown too early plz let me know, today is day 18. :) My dtg has been watching them since Thursday for me and has been sending me updates daily.

lockdown is from day 18 till 21 every now and then Their is a late hatcher. Pam

It takes topdog to get you to post I was getting worried about you. My Barbazieuz are big and tall. They come to me when I go out but still don't want to be held. They are clamer then they were as chicks.I'm keeping enough to hatch the next generation.
As for the Biefelders there are a big difference between the ones I have direct from GFFs and the ones I got from a breeder. Your fertillity issues could be from to much inbreeding. These are more active. They layed earlier then the others and are smaller at least the hens are. I'd give you an extra rooster for more diversity but have no way to get it to you. Pam

I'm here everyday just haven't had anything worthwhile to say. With the two straight runs of Barbs I bought I wound up with 10 pullets and 14 cockerels. I have the males and females divided into separate pens to reduce competition for food. I sit with them and a few out of each group will jump in my lap. They are calmer than they were when they were chicks. That's interesting you can see a big difference in the Bieles. I suspected the fertility issue could be from inbreeding. I wished we lived closer to each other. That's sweet of you to offer a rooster. Right now I'm short on space for more birds. As it is, when I get the meat bird breeding project going I'll need to build another coop and runs and also breeding pens. An expensive endeavor that's not exactly in the budget or makes priority sense. It's save for major home remodel or build chickens a home. I may have to move in with the birds.

That's funny! I'd do my house first. That's just me. If someone we know comes here that is closer to you maybe we can relay him to you. I won't send birds from green fire to freezer camp. I do have buyers from the Biefelders thread. I was trying to get out of shipping but it may come to that. Good to hear from you. I'll get updated pics to post later today. You will see how big my barbs. Have grown. Pam
