Their diet used to include a shocking amount of mealworms, and they had a pretty small run. Since then, I've cut out the mealworms, and extended the run quite a bit, and they free range way more than they used to.

Ugh, me too. I'm worried though because my surviving RIR has the same weird transparent comb and white face flushes that my late RIR had before she died of FLHS.

Did they offer you any treatment/protocols for others showing signs of disease? Maybe post a question on one of the main Injury/illness topic & include the necropsy report and explain what's going on with your RIR hen

Okay. returned from the for sale chicken list...
I need to get a brooder put back together.
For years I used an ancient thrift store bassinet/converted playpen
but it sort of disintegrated over the years (20).
I have a fairly large "turtle table" that a teacher had built for classroom tortoises.
I plan to convert it to a brooder by adding taller sides and a cover. I am thinking about some kind of hoop arches with some kind of mesh and I want to be able to open it and be able to reach in from either end. I use a Brinsea for heat so I won't need to hang anything.
I keep the chickies in the carport so they'll be dry but this table is about the size of a half sheet of plywood. Maybe I'll cover 2/3 for the chicks and leave the rest for storage/supplies.
This table is on wheels and it is heavy duty, should be good for years.
