"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hope that everyone had a good day. I almost had a heat related chicken emergency this evening. When I got home from Tractor Supply (feed run), I walked into the chicken yard as I always do. I always check for emergencies, etc. before I get started on my chores. I walked inside the chicken house and I saw one of my Orps sitting on the floor which was nothing unusual because they sometimes just sit in there and chil out. I went to her pet her on her head and I noticed that although she was breathing, her pupils were dilated and she was breathing with difficulty. I immediately grabbed her and brought her inside in the house in the air condition. I placed her on the floor mat inside and immediately got some water and the Poly Vi Sol liquid vitamins. I squirted several doses of water in her mouth and then gave her a dose of liquid vitamins. I kept an eye on her for a few minutes then kinda walked away so that I didn't startle her and get her excited being as though she was in a new and unfamiliar place. I gave her the chance to cool off and come back to life. Well, I left her inside and went back outside to see if I had any other heat related emergencies but everyone else was ok . I went back in to check on her and she was still doing the same. I had to run to Lowe's, so I headed out and then returned. I came back in the house and I didn't see her by the door. I immediately thought that she had went off to the corner to die. I looked around but I didn't see her. I went into the laundry room and she had walked in their and was sitting by the washing machine. She was back to normal. She looked good and was not panting. I was sooooooooooo relieved. I will keep her inside tonight and tomorrow to be on the safe side. I really don't like this heat.

Hoping for cool weather soon.

Julie glad you got your hen through her heat crisis! it is just stifling - you can't even breathe around here -- I've been letting mine out every day & they seek the coolest spots up in the hedges & I don't even see them until time to go to roost.

I think they will have to go into "lockdown" in the coop/run for the next few days as I have not gotten one single egg in 3 days now -- I have a sneaky feeling they are laying maybe in the hedges, if at all. I put fresh hay in all the nest boxes 2 days ago - still nothing! some little bodies are sloughing off!

Our citrus trees got a nice soaking this evening as I put the hose on them & then forgot (had the timer set for something else) so they ran for a good hour before we turned off the water. Gee I hate to see our water bill but hopefully the citrus will benefit from it!

Paisaneux we need to see a video of those zombie chickens, lol -- graainnss graaaiinnss!!

HEY! we got to see the International Space Station fly over us this evening!! It was SO COOL!! it was bigger & slower than I thought it would be!!

It will come over us again Sunday evening -- if you know where West and South are where you live, look in between & across the sky at about 8:40 pm Sunday night & you'll see it trucking across the sky -- right now they have a couple of American astronauts in it & one from Japan along w/the Russians.

I didn't know that coons would eat snakes and mice. They may be worth keeping around if the flock can be protected from them; although, I guess my gardening efforts will have little success unless I protect it too. Living next to a wooded area there's very little chance that I'd ever be rid of them so I may as well try to live peacefully with them.

I have 6 EE roos now and need to decide who is stew and who stays. How do you guys make these decisions? They all look great, and each one is way different from the other.
