"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

They just emailed be back saying that they can offer me a lower price of $5.00 per duck.

To me that's still high BUT since I've never processed a duck before I don't know how much harder it is to do than chickens!! I'm just guessing that if you skin it, it can't be that much harder can it??

ETA: With 50 birds you'd really think they would give you a discount!!

You're right, skinning is easier. That's how we did all of the ducks the last time. However it does take a little longer because because the ducks were huge. That price is still a bit high for me.

I bet! I know I wouldn't pay it either!!

My first thought on that was owl -- I remember my peacock mentor Deerman posting a pic of an owl he caught IN A TRAP! that was getting his peas. I had an owl come into my coop, kill one of my hens, exit w/the carcass & drop it over the peacock pen, which is covered overhead in chicken wire - I guess it was too heavy to fly with it.

Well Jim is sporting a bright green cast now! He gets to wear that for 4 weeks, then we go back & he gets a walking cast -- which he can't actually use to walk in for 2 more weeks after that. I offered to paint some holly on it - it's the perfect shade of green - the red & dark green leaves & vines would look nice & very "Christmas-y" lol, but he wasn't real keen on the idea. Maybe in a couple more weeks when we get really tired of looking at it!

LOVE Tractor Supply gift cards! I got my good rain slicker from there after Christmas last year, on sale!

I can't believe the prices on processing those ducks! I skin all of the extra roos I process -- it's quicker & easier. I wonder how many takers they really get, with those processing prices. Maybe some of us ought to start a sideline!

I lost several racing homers about a month ago . Thinking it was a mink I set a trap , never caught anything . My birds were in a 10x10x6 flight pen with quarter inch poly for the top . Had a 2x6 about 8 feet long and when a bird was on it , the bird was just a few inches from the top . One day I went out and saw a hawk sitting on top of the netting, and with its weight , it was weighing down the top and could easily reach though to claw or bite a hunk from the neck or head . Its been a few weeks now and nothing has bothered the chickens .I am strongly wondering if it was the hawk and not a mink that most say that is what got them .The birds that were killed were either on that board or had fallen from that board .

Somebody in this box has 2 BRL wyandottes , we have 11 pullets and one roo , hope to raise a few , they are only about two months old . Also have Golden Laced , can't wait to get those little ones grown , we just love the color , never have seen the Silver Laced , but as soon as we do , I am sure we will have of those also . My sister was at the Texas Sate fair over the weekend , they had right at 500 entries but only one or two Wyandottes . That kinda shocked me . They are such beauties .
