EWWW!!!! No! sorry! can't stand them!

But I can tell you this, if you have any Orientals in your area, run an ad & you will sell them like candy! I don't know what they use them for, but my late aunt across the road from us had two trees & she got .25 cents a piece for those things -- there was a family-- they run a wok place in town (I forget if it's chinese or japanese or what - I don't like oriental food, either) & they would come out & buy all that she would sell them.

Maybe if you google a search for persimmon recipes? I wonder if you could dry them like apricots? sort of like a fruit leather. Maybe w/some cinnamon sprinkled on them. Of course, they'd still taste like persimmons, which is the whole problem w/them to start with, lol!

I read that they like them. I got them for FREE from a 90 year old guy that wanted someone to pick them. He wasn't able to pick them and all they would do would go to waste. So, I went and picked (5) 5 gallons of them and I gave all of them away except 1 - 5 gallon bucket. I plan on making jelly and bread. My friend makes wine, so he will use his 5 gallon bucket to make persimmon wine.

Your welcome!! I was also told you could freeze them. I'll find out how you do that!!

Persimmon wine? Really? Wow. I wonder what that would taste like.

I thought the bread tasted sorta like pumpkin bread (when my aunt made it). Let's face it, you could mix styrofoam peanuts with cinnamon & vanilla & chopped pecans & flour & it would taste great, lol!

Eagles Point I don't know any sources for your birds you are looking for either, but welcome to our gang & you might try the La Market Bulletin.

I love the look of cochins; how do they do in our heat & humidity with all those feathers?

Well I learned something new -- I didn't know there were 2 different kinds of persmimmons -- still not sure what kind you have there Julie but they look just like the ones my aunt's trees used to have -- anyway, here are some recipes that look pretty good on this link!:

I spent the afternoon peeling satsumas & making simple fruit syrup to can them in & then had one jar explode in my canner--what a mess that made!

but, it's part of canning life. Have a good night all!

Good morning ya'll. I slept in very late this morning (7:00 AM). Opened the coops and starter on my weekend chores. The hens had kicked just about all of the hay out of the nesting boxes, so I just went ahead and cleaned them out and put fresh hay. Those girls know how to get under my skin. Stayed out there a while them came back in to cook breakfast and eat. Now I'm headed back out to finish my chores.

Enjoy the day everyone.
