Well, I just priced the "step it up a notch incubators" and I WILL NOT be stepping it up a notch. The notch is too expensive. $449.99????? NOT !!!!!!!

ETA: Boy I would love a cabinet incubator. Ok, slap me now ya'll.

FIGS?????? Oooooooooo, you are so lucky to be canning! You will have to share your recipe with me. Whenever I can find some figs, I would love to make some. In the meantime, I can only dream of figs.

Will you take a pic of them and post when you're done cooking them?

If I put a fig tree in my chicken yard, would the chickens make themselves sick eating the ones that fall to the ground? I have a fig tree that I haven't planted yet.

I don't think they would make themselves sick. I think it would be a good treat for them. The only problem is that they may love figs so much, you may never see a fig for yourself or your family.

We have two 30 yr old fig trees - they're huge - & the chickens are let out to free range every day - they do an outstanding job of eating up all the figs that fall on the ground & sometimes my crazy Ameracaunas will fly up in the lower branches & snag a few, but none of them has ever gotten sick off the figs. In fact, it's wonderful - they keep the ground cleaned up & well tilled under the trees - we don't even have to mow it!

Today I am going to try my hand at hatching. . . (First time nerves)

I've made a homemade incubator and tested for temp control and humidity so I think I'm ready.

I'm not sure what I will get in my hatch, assuming it's succesful

, but I have an EE roo over laced wyndotts silver & gold, and one B.O which are the only hens laying throughout their molt.

Is it nessesary to turn the eggs 3 times a day? It seems a bit much, but then I have NO experience whatsoever so any advice would be appreciated. =0)

You're right, cause I can hatch everything you want or I can drive it down there to you and you can incubate what you want. We would have a mobile bator. T & J's Mobil Bator Unit (MBU).

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am wishing you ALL of the luck with hatching. I'm not experienced at incubating, so I better let the experts respond to that. But I think the egg turning is necessary. My incubator has the auto turner, so it turns all day.

All this talk about figs has made me hungry. If anyone has any figs for sale, please let me know. I'm willing to buy a few jars. Figs and hot biscuits and a cold glass of milk does a body good.
