Good work with your pallets. I'll try to get a few pics of mine on my page and then link them for you to see. We made separate coops/runs for all breeds and it has been wild to finish!

I had more issues yesterday evening out of my gorgeous, yet hormonally enraged cockerel. He is in the pen I use for the older grow outs. All of those birds have been together since they were small. Remember how he bit one of the pullets and almost decapitated her? Well, hubby caught him yesterday FLINGING A SILKIE THROUGH THE AIR BY ITS HEAD FLUFF!!!

Said silkie is a tough little bird and has always tried to man up to this cockerel, but this was horrific. Hubby and I snatched up Charlie the emu gened wyandotte and placed him in JAIL! Boy was he mad! He scratched and fussed and had a fit! I do believe he will be in JAIL for a very long sentence...

Oh dear! I hate to say it, but they don't last long with a bad attitude at my house. That would have bought him a one way ticket to freezer camp!

I do have another cockerel from the same hatch, but he's a good 2 to 3 pounds smaller than this one and his coloring isn't nearly as striking. It's a tough decision, but we have been discussing lately the fact that if he stays with his girls much longer he may kill them all.

I plan to show him in a few weeks at the Magnolia Classic. I think if he wins anything he may save himself for a life of near solitude and conjugal visits on occasion. If he fails to bring in a ribbon, he may be sold...or gumbo'd.

If he is as nice as you say, then maybe it's worth selling him and buying a new one! Should be able to get a good price for him after winning that pretty ribbon

Oh wow!!!! He does have an attitude.. a VERY bad one. Bless the little silkies heart!

I built mine in Jan using parts and pieces I had collected along with some things I bought from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I used pictures of other peoples' coops to come up with my design. Given the fact I've never had chickens or a coop, I thought I did pretty well. I still need to paint it.

The basic framework.



The wood I used for the siding was a partial box of flooring I got from the ReStore for $25.


The windows on this side and above the nesting boxes are screened on the inside so I can leave them propped open during the summer for extra ventalation.


The back of the nesting boxes opens for egg retrieval and easy cleaning. This side of the coop also opens for cleaning and maintenance.
The run has a screen door on the front for entry and it's tall enough for me to stand in.
