Try checking out DMRippy -- look for her on the members pages. She has an incredible all pallet set up.

Meanie cockerel has fussed and complained all evening about being in jail. I gave him a firm talkin to every time I walked by him.

And I think I have been replaced by new little women.

The d'uccles we bought are definitely curious little critters. When any of us walk by they follow along and chatter away. When my hubby goes out they all run to their door. When he opens their door every one of those sassy little hens flies up onto his shoulders and just preen the mess out of him! He is just lapping up the attention. I wonder if he'd feel better if I preened him, too. "Oh honey, you're looking a little scraggly. Can I pluck your eyebrows for you dear?"

That's too funny!! If your husband's anything like mine, he pretends he has no interest in the little critters but it's all an act. As soon as they pay any attention to him he just eats it up. He's the biggest teddy bear.

I always like the turkeys, and never had a problem with them around kids.

Hey there, anyone here from the Northshore area? I grew up with laying hens and pet chickens, but we are just starting to get to know the people in our area with critters :) We moved here about 2years ago (my husband is from here) and we are just starting to get more chickens, ect (husband has a quail and pheasant obsession lol) and I have 3 incubators I'm trying to get started hatching my own chicken eggs! (starting with only one incubator lol) By the way, anybody have luck taming down a rhode island red rooster that has hit puberty with a vengance and become meeeeean- or is it a lost cause and should i break out the riot gear to collect eggs?? He started out a pet and was totaly sweet untill two weeks ago when he decided he was macho man and wanted to take over the universe! :)

Hello landryschickens!

To BackYardChickens and the Louisiana Thread!

There are quite a few of us on the Northshore: I live in Bush and know BYC'ers from Covington and Pearl River too!

Actually, their is a chicken swap/sale at O'Keefe's Feed and Seed in Covington tomorrow and again on the 24th from 10-2. A lot of the peeps registered on here will be there selling including me: I am bringing some roosters and mealworms that folks have reserved via our Facebook swap page, found here
http://www.facebook.com/groups/294697733934637/

You should come meet everyone if you have the chance. Lots of good people and a few of the people coming have some awesome rare breed birds!

and the La-yers thread too.

On the RIR boy I'd put it in the soup pot here. There are too many good ones out there to have to put up with that sort of nonsense from a rooster. hey even the game types are not man-fighters esp. to their caregivers, so most definitely you don't want this from a breeder to instill this nastiness into your future flocks for sure. If you can't locate another one close which should be fairly easy contact me I got lots to choose from, GOOD NICE ones.

Jeff

Good Morning everyo

ne on BYC's most addictive thread! As you know, I recently bought 2 female bunnies from Rusty in Crowley (thanks, Julie). I am researching about bunnies and read that I should have them spayed at about 4 months for their health and also to make them calmer and happier. I won't be breeding them and only want them for pets, so I wondered if that was true. I located a vet that does bunnies. They are about 2 1/2 months old now and it seems that they have gotten less happy about being held in the last couple of days. Do bunnies go through those "teenaged" times early on like chickens? In other words, does the fact that they aren't liking being held mean that they never will like it? Finally, you have inspired me with the building. I'm not nearly as creative as you guys, but I've decided to take an old run, add to it, put a roof on it and hardware wire under it and make it a bunny house. I'll post fotos. Have a great day!! One last thing, two times when i "backspaced" on a posting, my whole positing disappeared. That's why I didn't correct the bunny placement above.
