I'm new at this, my one year chicken birthday is next month. When I got my RIR and 2 Black Stars, one of the Black Stars was bigger and much more aggressive than the other two towards me and especially towards the RIR (I think she would have killed the RIR if given the chance). My family and I were convinced she was a roo. She was about the same age as your aggressive chicken. As you know, Black Stars can be sexed by their plumage, so I consulted a chicken person who assured me she was a hen (although I still didn't totally believe it until she laid my very first egg). Well, she settled down fine and, although she is the top of the pecking order around here, she rarely asserts her authority and never in a way that would do real harm. She is the least tame of my chickens, but not aggressive at all towards me anymore. So, there's hope. Are some chickens just not nice?
My largest, lightest pullet (barred rock) has been charging my dog and today she charged me. I was walking in the backyard in flipflops and I felt a peck on my heel. She continued to charge me until I left the backyard. Later in the afternoon, we had no issues. I don't have any recent pictures of her, but I have posted one a while back somewhere on BYC to see if she was a roo since she was so much lighter.
They are about 13 weeks old. Shouldn't it be obvious by now if she is actually a he?
It should be noted that she is the leader of my little flock of 4. She is also the largest and boldest. I'm thinking that if this continues, I may get to finally taste a backyard chicken!
I admit that I thought it was kind of funny when she would puff up and hop at the dog, but it's not so funny when it's my foot. And she keeps giving me that eye as if to say, "You want a piece of me?" A thigh would be nice.
