"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

That sounds like the same breed that I will be setting. :lau

I didn't separate any into breeding pens, so I will get the barnyard special. I will have to tag them so that I know the are the BYS and not breeding stock (barnyard special). :lau

I'm really just getting some practice hours in. This is only my 2nd year using an incubator. In the past, I had all of my broody girls to hatch out everything in the yard, so I never needed an incubator. Now, I am wanting another one. lol. I have 29 goose eggs that are under chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. If my rabbits would go broody, I would put eggs under them as well. I haven't figured out how to do that just yet. :gig

:yuckyuck Broody rabbits. NOW that would be a hoot and great money making opportunity. You could sell those bunnies as the true Easter Bunny: It takes your eggs and delivers you a chick!

You know I"ll try ANYTHING! :gig

I'm ALWAYS experimenting with something out in that yard. :D

I am so excited to be an official backyard chicken keeper now! I met Gracie in Lafayette to get my silkies, and they are doing great in their new home!

Isn't Gracie so nice!

Glad that you found us. To give you a heads up about me......I'm scared of silkies and showgirls, but you can join the thread anyway. :lau

Aboard the Louisiana La-yer Peeps crazy train. Glad you are part of our community and thread!

Okay. My normal chicken procedure is on a turner and then I hatch in cartons upright. Just let me know what to do. My concern with hand turning is that I'm gone to work from 6 am until 5 pm...they won't be turned at all for 11 hours until I get in. I could turn at 5:30, again at 5 when I get in, then again at bedtime, but that's the best I can do during the week.
Pea eggs you lay on their sides in your bator. let the auto-turner do its' job and -- and, in addtion to that, this is what my mentor, the late, great Burtis Craft (Deerman) taught me -- you turn them "lengthwise" 3 x daily -- it doesn't matter about your work hours-- just get those 3 turns lengthwise in daily -- it is the key to boosting your hatch rate. Your times you listed will do just fine. Keep temps & humidity just as you do chicken eggs. I was "winging" it all last year, but I hatched 14 out of 18 pea eggs so I know what I did works, or at least it did for me. And - I had staggered hatches -- I used my Brinsea Octagon for incubating & when I hit lockdown, moved those eggs into my ancient styrofoam Hovnabator 1602N, which worked fine for lockdown/hatch.

I never hatched them upright in cartons -- they are too big for that -- always kept them laying on their sides.

I heard the breeding calls today, so it won't be long now until we see pea eggs!
