Can anyone tell me what are the 5 best fruit trees to plant that will produce quickly and abundantly in Louisiana? Thanks

Fig takes off quickly and gets huge fast. Peaches also grow and produce quickly. If you want citrus--lime and lemons also do fairly well. My F-I-L also has grapefruit trees. Good jellies from those. I have never had much luck with any others. I have tried pears, but my trees grew then just would never produce.

Does anyone know where I could find 2 juvenile silkies? I don't care what sex. I am fulfilling a dream of mine, finally, to have a humble little backyard flock. I already have 6 3week old buff orps, and I would dearly love to add a couple of silkies to the mix. I'd even be willing to trade two buffs for two silkies. I'm on west side of St. Tammany.
Also, I keep seeing craigslist ads for Bayou State Hatchery in Pontchatoula. Can't find any info about them anywhere. Does anyone know anything about them?

Gracie has silkies and so do I. We are keeping the chicks I hatched a few weeks ago, but have 3 more due to hatch next week. Someone else here has silkies...is it LaMike??? Someone help me out on that.

I'm not too hip on fruit trees other than knowing the ones I like to eat from,LOL

Probly Terri & Jim could enlighten you some on this they seem to be in the know of these things, I'd say figs for sure, bananas maybe, and too any of the citrus esp with your more southern locale.

Got my Columbian Rock biddies in the mail this mornin' it has started out as a good day, for sure.

I'm not sure about trees either. We are going to buy some fruit trees on Friday and I just so happen to luck up on someone giving away a small orange tree that I snagged on yesterday. So that is 1 less tree that I have to buy. Now I won't have to continue to buy as many fruit from the store for my juicing. Too bad I can't grow grapes.

The figs should produce faster than the peaches. If you find a good 7 ft tall fig tree, you may get fruit next year. I think the peaches will take longer. It depends more on weather/soil than anything. And leave plenty of room around the fig tree when you plant it. Ours is probably 10 or so years old and is need of trimming, but is around 15 ft diameter around the bottom limbs near the ground.

Plums do well to I don't know the wait period though

Goody. Do I need to add any fertilizer to the soil when I plant them? I got plenty of rabbit and chicken fertilizer.
