I teach elementary school, too, so I could use the recipe, too. I'm growing some muscadines, or trying to for the first time, this year. Just planted them. I was just saying today how hard the last month of school will be. LOL. I do love those babies.

My girls were fluffed up today against the cool weather.

Did anyone ever get all the finalist(results) of the Magnolia classic show in Leesville a couple of weeks back
I stayed until they were finished since hubby got a little trophy. That's what I get for letting my family choose birds and then taking the leftover myself. Ha! I didn't get anyone's names...I just looked at the winning birds. The cornish hen took overall winner. LF winner was the big black orp, bantam winner was the cochin. Don't ask me which game bird took that division--that's not my thing. It was the call duck female that took for water fowl, and there was the rose combed rir for that division. I don't remember the others since they weren't my thing.

Hello! I'm new to the forum and live in southern louisiana. I was wondering where you guys get chicks from. Are there several reputable places or breeders here, or is it more of a gotta know someone network? I currently have a flock but am interested in raising some chicks when the current ones grow. I hate to order online because shipping is so stressful. I'd much rather be able to pick up chicks.

Welcome! There are lots of folks here than can likely help you out with chicks. It just depends on your area and what type of chicks you want. :)

I live just south of Baton Rouge, in Iberville parish. I'm glad to hear there is a large network! I hear from people from all over the states, just never Louisiana. :)
I was interested in getting some Welsummers, mottled Cochin, golden laced and blue laced red Wyandotte, speckled Sussex, Black Australorp, salmon favorelle, olive egger, and Orpington. I want a colorful basket and a calm, colorful flock. Ideally, I'd like to be able to get the chicks at the same age, even if that means I have to drive all over the state, but I realize with such a large array of chicks that may be impossible.

Also, just out of curiosity, is there anyone in the state that breeds the Mille fleur color for any breed?

Thanks for the tip! I checked out the poultry swap website. It says they come the first Sunday of the month, but do you know if some months are more active than others? Or does everyone normally come consistently?
