X2. This is the best thread on BYC imho. LOL
Good morning everyone . I hope that everyone had a great weekend. It rained my way a little yesterday but it wasn't too bad. This weekend consisted of cutting the grass, cleaning the yard, the start of cleaning the coops, stalls, chicken houses, rabbit pens, waterers and feeders. The baby lambs are always at my feet, so it's hard to move from place to place without me tripping over them. I finally cleaned out the garage and all 3 brooders that were in there. I will be able to move the pea, poults and keets from inside the house to the garage. I'm thinking about putting the remaining 2 older keets with the 50 chicks that I have but I have to make sure that they won't be able to fly through the vents. Those little suckers are quick and fast. They remind me a hummingbirds at how quick they can fly and in what direction they fly.
The peas have only laid 3 eggs since I sold those 10 eggs. I guess they are going through the egg laying cycle again. The boys are dropping a few feathers and I am collecting the feathers. If I don't sell these lonely 3 pea eggs, (I know that I said that I wouldn't but.......) I will be forced to put them in the incubator. I can't see losing these eggs. I will probably put some guinea eggs in the incubator to fill it up. The first 4 pea eggs of the season that I placed in the incubator yielded 3 hatched peas and 1 egg didn't hatch. I cracked open the egg and found that there was a fully developed pea inside but for some reason it didn't hatch. I'm not sure what happened. So, I 'm happy to know that all 4 eggs were fertile. So the boys are doing their jobs.![]()
I was looking at the 50 chicks that I got for free at the feed store and they are growing out nicely. Looks like I will have either RIR or New Hampshire Reds, Golden Comets, Barred Rocks, White Plymouth Rocks and then I have these chicks that I'm not totally sure. It think I know the breed but I'm not sure. Anyone want to guess at what breed these are?

Sounds like a pair to me. LOL (BTW, it looks Egyptian! LOL)I got one like this as my "extra" with my meaties that came from McMurray. Mine is a roo and I am pretty sure its an Egyptian Fayomi. He started crowing at like 6 1/2 - 7weeks old. He needs a home........that is not mine! LOL!
Look how big the bun bun has grown. I'm so happy. I knew he would make it. Good job!!!!!!!Good Afternoon!! I agree that this thread is a lot of laughs and excitement for me, too. Say what you want about my life, but it's wholesome, fun, and pretty much moral LOL, what more can you ask??? I usually check all the other threads I am subscribed to first and save this one for last so I can savor it. LOL Here is Day 11 of the little bunny, Ginger. Eyes aren't open yet. Actually, if you count by 24 hours, it's really Day 10.![]()
Well folks, We finished off the last 13 meaties last night. Almost all of them are put up. Only a few left soaking in the ice water cooler with sea salt. Wow was that a lot of work! But it already smells better out there in the backyardAnd I am looking forward to some fried chicken! Kind of weird for me since I rarely make fried foods here at home and I found out about 9mo ago that I have to eat Gluten Free. So it should be fun coming up with a breading that I like to fry with. I might use some of the GF flour mix that I mix up myself.
My Rooster conundrum continues. There are 4.......count them, FOUR!.......so far. I was going to pass the Fayomi to a friend to take to her Mom, but that just hasn't happened and I don't want to bug her about it. It has been a foregone conclusion with my 10 year old Chicken Whisperer that the Fayomi is going. She can deal with that. But she is NOT on board with her huge roo that came from school going, or the little white Cochin either. She says I can get rid of my Houdan! Little stinker! LOL!
Now that the Meaties are gone we have some work to do on the old hen house so I can put the bigger egg layers over there. In the long run our cute little chicken tractor we built is only going to work for our little Silkies and the Bantams. I am glad that my time will be freed up a little for that project. Even though we let them out into the whole yard everyday and there is perch room for everyone I still feel like they are getting crowded. It will be good in the long run anyway, if we do have any fertile eggs to give to the Silkies to hatch. They can have some privacy.
Hope everyone is having a good week!
At any time you want to have Satan's Army over for the weekend, please let me know and I will DELIVER them to you.![]()
Congrats on the turkey eggs. LOL @ Club and Sandwich. I'm praying that they DO NOT act up.

Tips Keeping them sweet? NOPERSJust joking. Spend as much time with them as possible. Handle your poults EVERY DAY all Day. Talk to them and they will be as sweet and as tame as you would ever want them to be.
I think my turkey is a tom he's about 8 weeks old & he opened his tail feathers & really look like a tom. going to read up on them, thanks for the post
You sure do know your breeds. I have NEVER even heard of this breed before. I thought someone from this thread had come over and snuck in a showgirl or frizzley little monster. I looked up pics of baby chicks for this breed and BINGO. That is what it looks like. Good job !!!!! Good Eye!!!!!!I got one like this as my "extra" with my meaties that came from McMurray.
