"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

any showgirls or silkies around the greater baton rouge area for sale? preferably pullets close to laying. but, not super picky on age. i've heard to ask for f1 on the showgirls? i'm guessing that's first generation, before being bred back to showgirls?

personally, i'd love to have some silk spinning goats--that would be AWESOME. especially if they could shoot it out their rump, like a spider!

edit: failing the showgirls... how hard would it be to make your own? i'm guessing a turken hen and a silkie roo?

No, but they got some(showgirls) out in Vegas I'd bet, don't know about for sale but for rent more like it LOL

Hey seriously though LaMike is one of the La-yers that supplies those to many here maybe he can tell you who has some around there if not he's probly got plenty I'd imagine.

My question is: I thought poisonous snakes had that pointy diamond shaped head. Just wondering about my snake knowledge although I kill and ask later.

Yes our native vipers in the US have the "v"=VIPERs shaped diamond/pointy heads the only venomous snake we have here with a the rounded head=(Colubrids) is the Coral snake (red and yellow will kill a fellow) The non venomous look alike a member of the king snakes(name eludes me at the moment)Milk snake I believe is "red and black is a friend of Jack"

Jeff

No Terrie no guineas yet gonna get me some and turkeys too one of these daysess

holler if you find a nest full of eggs I'll put them under one of my forever broodies over here and my neighbor will love me even more I'll have to convince him they really are good to have roaming all over the whole place as they are great exterminators LoL he probly still won't go for that too much but hey his cats free range every where they want to still yet "what's good for the goose is good for the gander'' I say, HUH?

Where were you when I had guinea eggs falling from the sky. I was finding so many guinea eggs. I gave away so many eggs. I just wanted them GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never found her nest this year - & I hunted high & low -- until they hatched. She had it very well hidden at the base of an old dead pecan tree. But you're welcome to some next year if I can find them, or Julie will have some for sure, you know ol' "Fertile Acres" is gonna have a ton of everything w/feathers!

What it there Terri. Don't curse me for next year. But yea, you're right. I'll have about 1000 of them I'm sure.

Laurie, I forgot to add - when my guineas hatched out keets on their own this summer, I tried to "relocate" some of them across the 10 acre field to my folks' house.

Didn't work.. 15 minutes after I got them set up in a brooder over there, my Mom called & said "come get them. the parents are over here & raising all kinds of sand". Sure enough, the adults had flown across the field to their babies & were raising cane!

I had to put the babies in a bucket & carry them back across the field to our house, fending off Mama guin & her mates who kept trying to attack me the whole way back!
OH THANK YOU for that!!!!

I so needed that story after the day that I've had!

You guys have convinced me that I do need to wait until I've at least got the barn built next door before I get the guineas. After I was done laughing at your story, I realized that it could be me...only the people that would end up buying the house (with my luck) would have no interest in the guineas and probably end up suing me because my "pets" were a nuisance!! That would be my luck anyway.

I do like the image of you walking across the field with a bucket and angry guineas attacking!
Thanks again!

I had a scare. I went out at about 5:00 to give the girls a yogurt treat. I called them and no Primrose. I called and called. Still no Primrose. I checked neighbor yards. And worried because teen boys were out and people were walking dogs and she doesn't run from people, you can just pick her up. Then I looked in the nesting house and there she was. No laying song, just sitting there. None of my chickens have ever laid this late, so if she is still in the nest when I go out to lock their coops, I guess I will take her out and put her in the coop. If she's broody, I'll have to go back and re-read those posts. Never had a broody. Maybe it's just a late afternoon egg.

I had one lay at 7:30 last night, wouldn't let anyone in the coop until she was done. May just be late today, you'll see tomorrow.

What is up with all the HEB adds on here today? I don't have one anywhere near here and their prices look so good.

I'm glad you found here and that she was ok. Because of the neighbors dog (he wiped out another neighbors flock of 7 including the rooster) I only let the girls out in the afternoon while I'm outside feeding horses, etc. The neighbor's rottweiler and I are going to "have a talk" one of these days. I've motivated him to get away from the coop with a bb gun before, but if he takes out one of my girls, it will be GAME ON!!!

You need to have a talk with that neighbor about proper care of that dog. If someone were to call animal control (please don't) he would be put down. A dog is a dog and will get out every now and then but all the time is a boundary issue.
