I know I can be thick sometimes but I must be extra thick because I truly don't understand this one. In Chicago it is expected to get a wind chill factor of -30 to -40 on Monday. They are closing down the airport, asking people to stay off the road as much as possible, only planning on plowing the main roads until the storm is over, and warning about frostbite in as little as 5 min on any exposed skin, but they expect parents to send their kids to school??? The bus can't pick up anyone not on a main road because they won't be plowed and a lot of kids walk. There would be no way I would send my child out in that weather for any reason.
Good morning Layers. I hope that everyone had a great evening. I think I'm almost caught up on my sleep from a couple night's ago. I had a glass of fig wine and it helped me sleep VERY well.
I woke up this morning and I thought it was Monday and thought that I was late for work. Musta been a great night.
Started my morning off with the official celebration of turkey laying season. The girls started laying a week or so ago and I just had to keep 2 turkey eggs reserved just for me. I cracked those babies open this morning and cooked them over easy. You talk about delicious. I love turkey eggs. I baked a couple of my home made biscuits and had them with fig preserves.
I wanted to get back in bed to sleep more but I will be heading out to pick lemons at a guy's house. There is a guy that lives about 3 miles down the road that stopped by on yesterday and brought me a bag full of lemons. He came over to invite me over to go to his house to pick all of the lemons on his trees. He said that they are going to waste and he won't use them. He has 3 trees, so I'll be getting all of the 5 gallon buckets that I can collect and tarry over there shortly. Although he never asks for anything in return, I will be taking him a few dozen of my fresh eggs as a thank you for letting me pick his lemons.
The broilers are doing great. I see that they have put a dent in their FF. It's great NOT to see any waste of ANY food at all. If I would have been feeding them straight dry crumble, there would have been waste. WASTE=LOSS OF MONEY and we all know how cheap I am.

There is NO COMMON SENSE ANYMORE!!!! Hopefully parents will THINK about their children's well being and NOT wait for the "powers that be" to tell them it's OK to keep their kids home.

X2! I wouldn't even send my husband to school in that weather and he's a teacher. Sorry administration. Good luck finding a sub that's willing to go in....
I KNOW!!! I was ready to jump the tv. All I kept thinking about was the NEW kicker!!! NEW, did I mention NEW??!?!!! The way they've been playing the last few games, I was ready for it to go the other way. However, win or lose, I am a HUGE SAINTS fan!! Hopefully in SPIRIT and NOT size after the holidays!
Any of you Louisiana peeps with houses on piers have this problem? My hens seem to have taken an interest in the insulation under my Acadian style house on piers. There is Styrofoam board across the joists and it has a shiny shell. I guess they pecked at it once and then exposed the white Styrofoam. Now when they get bored they start jumping up and picking at my insulation. It looks like snow under my house and I have seen some hens eating the small bits of Styrofoam. I guess I will really feel it tomorrow and Tuesday when the temps drop!
Anybody else have this issue? Any ideas to deter them from picking/eating my Styrofoam insulation?
