"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Walmart has a sale on cabbage right now, $0.10/lb. I now have 210 pounds of it and need to start cooking/canning it soon. Only spent $21! I usually pay between $3-$4 a head. While I was checking out the nice cashier told me we have a soup kitchen in town that likes to cook with it so I went back and got more so I could donate it.

If it were to get into the deep negatives like some areas like -30 to -45 I'd have a house-load of chickens!! I'm glad it's only heat light weather down here.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!  I found more baby mealworms in with the 2nd container that I have set up for the adults.  I actually am really surprised that the adults have lived so long.  I transferred them to a 3rd container so they can hopefully make even more babies.  I do think that I transferred less adults than the first transfer.  So possibly we have had some die, but not many.  Surely those adults can't live that much longer though!

So glad that we now have 2 containers of the mealworm babies to grow now.  I do think it is going to take awhile though.  They certainly do not seem to be super fast growing.  But in the long run if I can keep the whole mealworm farm going then I should have plenty of big mealworms to feed......maybe once a week.

Mine are also moving slowly, I separated my beetles last week, and quite a few of them died. You have this problem? I fed the ones that looked poorly.

I just bought worms to try and start them. They are expensive at petsmart how long from starting them till you had enough to feed some to your flock? Any advice on bins or what food they like better etc.

I don't know if you saw my post but Williams Sonoma is having a sale plus 20% off sale pricing I buy from them at sale time. They are expensive. They have their gluten free mixes on sale for 4.something they are 20. Regular price. I know you like to make everything from scratch. Sometimes it's nice to have a good mix when you need something but aren't feeling up to baking from scratch. The mixes I've bought from them have all been really good.

Okay guys, I have NO real idea of what I am doing. I have no baby mealworms yet, but plenty of beetles. Why are you separating the adults? Should I be doing that when I get babies?

I just bought 1000 about 2 months ago, medium worms. Beetles emerged about 10 days ago. I bought on eBay...

I just wanted to keep the adults separate. I honestly don't know what the difference is. But i have seen lots of the youtubers did it like that too.
