Question: dose any one use paraffin when canning? My grand mother used a lot of it putting up jams and jellies. She canned every thing. She had a room made for storing home caned goods. A couple large canning pots and cases of Ball and Kerr jars. When she died my mother thru all her canning stuff out. I asked her why? She said because I know you wanted it and you would start canning. You can not afford to can. It is cheaper and better in the store. Besides, "it is a lot of work. I hated canning, you do not want all that work."

I WISH I could find it raw! The only place I know of to get it fresh is from WesMar Farms. Its pasteurized though. It is illegal for them to sell it if it isn't pasteurized. But its really good!

Is it still illegal if it is sold as "not for human consumption"? I would think there is some sort of backup plan for when a cow doesn't produce enough milk (like too old). I would be willing to take my chances.

I found a local person who had raw goat milk but she wanted about $35.00 for a gallon. NOT!!! She said that they had so much goat milk every year, that they would throw it away . I see why it was being wasted and thrown away. She was charging an arm, a leg and a first born child. Why throw it away? Why not lower your cost to a "reasonable" cost and make a little money off of it? So, she doesn't make any money because she poured perfectly good raw goat milk down the drain. DUMMY!

What was she drinking??? You raise price based on cost, lack of supply, and high demand. If you have enough to pour down the drain then there is room to lower the cost. At the very least she could use it herself...what a waste!

Thought about it but if I do I have to give up overnight and late night events (like camping). My mother is by back up plan for when I have to go out of town and she is willing to care for cows, pigs, and chickens but not a goat. I'd rather have to care for a goat then a big cow.

I did when I was younger but there are risks to it. In fact I have a block of gulf wax in the fridge right now just in case. It is harder to make sure there is a proper seal AND all the air is out at the same time. The lids make it easier to tell. If canning with both (some do) air can get trapped under the seal of the paraffin and cause things to spoil. I would highly suggest against it for beginners or people just starting to get back into canning because of user error. Once you have gone a season or two canning and get your rhythm back you can try because you know what you are looking for. It is cheaper to can once you have the jars, the jars cost the most. It is a lot of work to can properly but the payoff is worth it!

You can buy and sell raw milk, for animal use only. But once it is your ...........? Ever up area is different. Some will let diaries sell raw milk but they can not advertise it or tell any one. No matter how you look at it it is hard to find. The demand is growing, I am That it will change. Right now in Arizona there is a bill coming up that will say "it is illegal in Arizona city's to band Backyard Chickens". If enough states fallow, some day, unless you have an HMO, no mater ware you move you can have chickens. I am sure that there will be regulations, just as for dogs and cats.

We should have the FREEDOM to chose what we put in our body's. Of course, with freedom, uneducated people, that have not been taught and unwilling to become self educated (common sense past down from out for Fathers/Mothers has a great gap between 1944 and 2014) themselves on food perpetration. Example of lost knowledge. "A pure silver coin placed in raw milk will keep it fresh longer. Every family had a silver coin for the milk jar."

There is a series of books, the 'Fox Fire', that is a very good resources for forgotten knowledge. Many of you probably know about them. It started out as a school project and found it way to publication. Now there are 12 books.

That's price is outrageous! my husband always says, "You can't fix stupid"! Lol. But then again, maybe she was trying to save money for if she gets caught. Court costs are high and it's illegal to sell it raw. (I think that is a really dumb law!)

Exactly! But she lost out in the end because she had to dump it all out. Her prices were too high. Oh well.

Exactly! I agree. With all the fast food, high sugary drinks, honey buns, candy (kids getting rotten and decayed teeth) and all of the other crap that they sell and people eat and eat and eat until they are obese, you would think they would allow us to buy raw milk so that we can intake HEALTHY milk.
