"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I just called Tractor Supply and THE CHICKS ARE IN !!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Tomorrow I am going again...I WILL Be bringing home fluffy butts. Just saying.

YOU GO GIRL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went tonight but I didn't see anything I wanted. Whoops, I mean, I went to buy a heat lamp bulb.

Some guy bought 24 RED pullets. There were A LOT of ducks. That's the LAST thing I need. Many of the bins were not labeled. That was scary. So I quietly exited. Will go back tomorrow though.

I was very disappointing. There was only a handful (20 maybe) already sold pullet chicks and like 6-8 ducklings. Poo.

Now I know why I never found a husband to love my abilities: you gals got them!!!

That's sweet to say! Their's one for you too if you want one. My grandma lost grandpa when I was 4 . She never remarried. She liked traveling and working. Back then most women stayed at home an raised kids did all the housework etc.she retired from the post office and started traveling she was ahead of her time. I think she didn't remarry because she didn't want anyone telling her what to do. The few memories I have of gramps was him yelling at us for playing and making noise while his football was on. He would make us cry and she would try to make it better. I think after a controlling hubby she thought she would live alone. So she could do what she wanted. Pam

I came to the board just to comment on this! I'm super excited! This is also the first time I've noticed the special order form where you can order what you want

Now, to decide what to get!

On a side note, is there a black chicken that lays blue/green eggs? They look like black australorps, but lay green/ very blue eggs. Are they just easter eggers? There are five or six of them, and I was wondering what they were.

You go girl. And I applaud you for being able to doing everything that he could.
bow.gif
Not tooo many of us around anymore. I"m proud that you are able to do all of those things and you don't rely on a "man"..
thumbsup.gif
You would think that a man would be proud AND honored to know and to say that his wife/partner can do all of those things but some aren't. I don't get it.

I work with some women who can't do DIDDLY SQUAT! I am so embarrassed for them. I don't understand how that works.

And the sad thing about it, they don't want to learn how to do anything. All of the females in our office (except 2 - me and another girl) can't change a tire to save their souls. They have to call their husbands or someone else to come and change the tire. Heck, they can't even check the tire pressure in their tires with a gauge. Now, I know that is not "common" for most women to be able to do but c'mon ladies. Years ago, a co-worker's husband died and she said the strangest thing. She said that she has to learn how to do everything because he did everything for her. I was like, "HUH. What does that mean?" For some odd reason, I thought all women knew how to do "minor" things to their vehicles and other minor repairs around the house. I guess I was raised differently. My father taught me how to change a tire and check oil levels, water levels, put in antifreeze change the oil in a car at the age of 10 years old. The older I got, he showed me how to change brake pads and few other things. After my father retired from the military, he was a plumber/electrician by trade, so he taught me how to change faucets, a toilet, etc. I guess that's why I loved being with my father all of the time because he was always doing things that I considered "fun". While my sisters were inside doing their hair, nails and toes and make up and shopping, I was outside learning a trade. I thought that was normal but I was shocked to find out that is wasn't.

Men say they love an independent woman but when it comes right down to it, they are jealous and feel insecure.

Now don't get me wrong, it's very nice to have a husband to do all of those "manly" things but again, c'mon ladies, don't depend on him to do it all. That Is why I always encourage people to learn more and do more. When I see someone doing something that I can't do, I want to learn how to do it, so I ask them to teach me or I teach myself. But that's just me.

Learning = Empowering yourself.

Hats off to you for being a single mom and making it. Keep up the good work.

Ha! Unfortunately, I'm one of those that grew up knowing Diddly Squat. But I'm learning and trying and getting better. It's all in the raising I guess. I was a city girl until 17 then helped feed cows, lift hay and walk fences. But not from 18-60.

Back in the country again and learning over. This year will be my first chickens, first garden. I do know how to can but haven't in 15 yrs. So starting over. It WILL be an experience.

I'm no expert but I'd put my money on easter eggers. The only other chicken I know that lays blue is crested cream legbars. As for australorps I have one she just started laying and her eggs are hudge. I'll get a few more.

Same here. Thanks . I wish that he could have recovered but I think that he had severe neurological damage. His legs continued to position themselves behind him. He is paralyzed.

And yes my neighbors paid in FULL. I'm so glad. Now it's all in the past and we can continue to be good neighbors. :)

Oh no, I am so sorry about your tom. I'm not sure what happened, but it's good that your neighbor is stepping up.

My chicks finally came!  I got them all settled, one at a time.  I CANNOT believe that there were no flattened chicks in the bottom of the box!!!!  There are 2 of the teeny tiniest little Buff Plymouth Rocks that are iffy at this point.  The worst one drank too much then spit some back up.  Rested for a long time, not even cheeping.  Finally started coming around and at least is looking at food, though I don't think it has eaten any yet.  Wait and see now.  My "extra" chick has feathered legs.  I am going to have to go look at pics to see what it is.  The Golden Polish and the Columbian Plymouth Rocks TAKE THE PRIZE for being the CUTEST!!!

This is great news- I know how worrisome it is when shipped chicks are late arriving. How are the weak ones?

LOL -- my "EX-fiancee" is still living in Nashville. He couldn't wait to get out. I couldn't wait to STAY PUT! I wouldn't even leave to go away to college - I am a graduate of La. College in Pineville.

When I was 10 years old, I used to ride my white mare Lady all over out here. Out of all the places we went, my favorite was the 3 pecan trees in the center of the pasture. I used to ride out there & share a PB&J sandwich with Lady & I swore that some day, I would live on a place just like that.

My Grandfather decided that year to divide up his land among his 8 children. We all gathered at his place & he put the lot numbers of the property into his cap & had each person come up & draw a lot.

When it got to Daddy - who was the youngest - there was one slip of paper left in his cap. Daddy told me to go up and get it.

It was the 10 acres I loved so much. Those 3 pecan trees still stand in my backyard today.

This is one of the best and most heartwarming stories I've heard! It gives me warm fuzzies!

I've had an exhausting couple of days. My husband was injured in an accident at work and burned his right arm when a paint recycler machine spewed out boiling paint. We spent hours in the ER with no one being able to figure out how to remove the paint from the burns. They finally sent him home with lots of meds and an appointment with the burn center at the BR General today. The people who treated him there were amazing. They debrided the burns and said that because he immediately immersed his arm in cool water, he prevented the burns from progressing to 3rd degree. They wrapped him in some new type of bandage that is infused with silver meds and stays put for a week. They said it significantly speeds healing and there will be a big difference when they remove it. Such good news! I still haven't slept, so I'm about to call it an evening.

I spent a few minutes with my turkeys today for some anxiety relief. I just love them!

If you look closely you can see the 2nd hen peeking out from behind the others on the right side. :)

I love that the hens strut sometimes too! They don't let the tom outshine them. :D

Sorry to hear about his accident!

Medicine has come a long way in the past few decades. He was very smart in getting it to cool as soon as possible. The paint is hard to remove without causing a lot of extra damage, it will fall off in time. I am glad he had such great doctors! Make sure he takes all the antibiotics that he was prescribed. The second leading cause to cancel out his recovery is infection, if he takes all the antibiotics he reduces his chances of a complication from the burn to less then 2%. Get some rest knowing that everything that could be done was done and that it wasn't worse.

I'm so sorry to hear about your husbans accident. You must be so tired. I'm glad he was given such good care and acted quickly to lessen the burn. I'm so glad your turkeys help you unwind. Studies show our pets help us in so many ways. I'll pray for a quick recovery for you and your husban. And take foreverlearnings advice she's super smart! Pam
