Lamb # 2 has that was born a couple days ago is being bottle fed. New mama has upset me because she does not want it to suck. She is partially rejecting it. She is still trying to get the lamb to walk and it already knows how to walk. The lamb tries to suck and she lets it suck for about 5 seconds and turns away. :smack I thought this year would be different but I'm back to bottle feeding. :hit We will be building a milk stand to secure the mama so that the baby can suck her milk. My bottle fed lambs are not as big as the lambs that suck the mama.

Oh I have ny big guns ready. Just holding out fingers crossed lol
I've got to get better educated about them.  I prefer not to use chemicals, but I had declared a state of emergency, so out came the big guns!  Now, I will start to learns and see how I can prevent and be better prepared for them in the future.  Me yesterday...:th :sick :barnie :smack :tongue ...done!

I think I accidentally made a Sizzle......???

And this one is a Frizzled Blue with Silkie type feathers, 5 toes. These are so tame and like to snuggle because they hatched out in the 5th grade class of my girls elementary school. The kids loved on them every day of last week

They really enjoyed watching them hatch and grow.

Sevin makes a natural one (green bottle) that works great as a preventive that I use on my flock. There is also wood ash and DE for preventive. If this is going to be a big problem this year then I suggest to bring them all out. The problem is that once there is an infestation you generally need a chemical to get rid of them. I have a process to get rid of them with mayo but I only do it on new birds (won't work in coop, only on bird) but it requires a lot of handling and it takes 3-4 hours per bird to complete.

Just put the Sevin or DE where they dust bathe?? Which is better. We don't have any mites that I know of, but they have made their favorite dusting area (under the bunny hutch, ugh) and I could just throw in the treatment, right?

Just catching up. My friend doesn't get better, but we expected that. I try to keep him laughing and think of things he can still do before he is bedridden. I'm taking him to hear music next Wednesday. It's a place with rows of sofas instead of chairs, so I can help him in and when he needs to go we will. He is on very strong pain killers (oxycodone) and the pain gets really bad if he forgets to take them. I'm sure he will have morphine later. I try to make sure he has food that appeals to him. There's no one to stay with him at night. Taking it one day at a time. It's good that he has lots of friends but just a couple that will assure he is okay daily. Thanks for your prayers.

Today I saw a pile of fence pickets, a ladder and boards by the road. I made three trips to get some.

On one trip I got a gate to hid an ugly view in my chicken yard. Here's before and after.

I got a huge heavy ladder that I am going to cut into three pieces and cement in the ground to make perches around the chicken yard.

I went back and got extra pickets to make a screen of another ugly view

I haven't yet this year but they're coming an article for LSU Ag said :( red mites raid the south every spring fast and hard ...good job that you noticed and caught it and treated thoroughly and fast..great chicken mama! I hope they skip us :gig but article I read said be ready, doh until all the meaties are processed :( we don't use anything chemical here with them on the grounds so I'm in for a fight if they show up beforehand. Already getting my butt kicked by fire ants lol . ..

Ants.. I kill off mounds every year by purchasing That cheap cheap version if windex. Stab their mound or home n the ground with a pitchfork or hoe, just make holes down in it. Make sure you go a foot around it too with holes. Then pour the bottle out Into it. Works for me every time. May not be dead but they are gone...

Stay close Primrose. They told my Dad that he had 6 mo and he died a little over 3 wks later. Thank God I took an early leave to take care of him. Mama wasn't able. Your friend is lucky to have you as such a good buddy. It's tough but so rewarding. Take care of yourself too.
