"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Please remind me about the test for fresh eggs. Which one floats? I got my eggs all mixed up. If the eggs test "not fresh" can I still cook and feed to the chickens?
Floating eggs are BAD!!! I don't think you can feed those to your girls. I COULD be wrong. Someone else will confirm, or correct.
When the egg is flat on the bottom of the bowl (filled with water), it is the freshest. I think Angel (?) had a picture chart. Or it could have been Forever?

I haven't seen mites since the first time I treated. I just have to figure out: 1. Treat with something else? 2. HOW to make them stop picking 3. I need their feathers to grow back!!!

I have passed HORRIFIED and will now probably need therapy and wine (wine therapy) to recover from this.
Have you tried putting blue kote on them to keep them from pecking the feathers out? If you haven't seen them since the first treatment, I would think they are probably gone now.

Do they have a nice dry dusting area? That might settle down the picking. Settle their skin down? Is there something you can give a chicken to stop the picking and itching?

Ok peeps. We have a hoop coop. Used to protect meaties at night. We aren't doing meaties again for a few months. We are going to be tearing it down and building a matching wood coop. I went in it today to pull out feeders and toys and bricks and such. I lifted up a tile and found a carpet of these holy moly if that's a maggot its the biggest I've ever seen bug!
Theyre like an inch long and fat.
Totally grossed out (hard to do) I needed a few moments to stop wrenching so u could get a pic. And then....the chicks and chickens tackled me INTO THE DAM PILE! UG. So, now that I'm not screaming obscenities at chickens and flailing around in a pile of maggots*? - what is it? Beetle larva? Fly babies? Ew. The chickens have been gobbling them up and were quite shocked I was so happy to share this bounty of bugs... :th

Remember when I had the mite problem? Well, EVERYTHING has been treated multiple times, INCLUDING the chickens. I've used Sevin spray in coop, run, on ground around coop, and run. Chickens have been dusted (Sevin), treated with the EXPENSIVE K9 Advantix liquid (under each wing, back of neck, above vent) multiple times. They may glow soon. I am STILL seeing feather picking!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!! They look pitiful!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband says that they are the ugliest chickens he has ever seen!! Bare butts, some with bare lower bellies (Polish), and some picking feathers at base of tail.

I am ready to have a nervous breakdown! I KNOW I have cleaned and treated and RE-treated correctly. NOW WHAT?
Thanks,
Laurie

Sure they aren't molting? If sure its mites lemon treated with neem oil and they we're gone!

Don't tear it down. Put down carrot peels and newpaper over it. Come back in a week and send in the chickens again. Perfect protein.

While shocked to find them the thought of how much the girls loved them made me happy lol free food! Still tho...eww I am a whole lot less grossed out than before my chicken years :lau chickens taught me to not mind getting gross and dirty, better than my kids did!
