And it rained this morning, came down like a gusher while I'm out there trying to rig a tarp. Made it just as it quit raining. Talk about a drowned rat.

I'm quite proud of myself. A lot of work but I slept over 10 hrs so I'm feeling pretty good. I had the bottom of a plastic dog crate in it upside down for the babies and all 10 of them were in there dry. Maybe a good snuggle was what they needed to get to know each other. i have to build some kind of roost for them. But that'll be a couple of days. I have 2 more 3 week old cockerels to trim of their wings and put in there. Couldn't catch yesterday. After everybody settles down and I get the roost in I'll take out the crate and give them more running room. 3' by 12' so they can do some running.

she even growled at me I think and tried pecking me...hard! Anyway what has worked for you and/or this sound like a good plan? I can't let her hatch anything because I have no roo and my coop is at a comfortable capacity. Thanks for any help!

I heard to dunk her in a bucket of water before putting up. Cool off her middle hot spot.

Heard it muffled some and silences some and a few crowed through. Know a lady that lives in town with one on her roo. Been about a year. She replaced it only once because he got caught on something and it got torn but hasn't happened again, it muffled her roo lower than her egg songs :gig It's not supposed to bother feathers but his feathers are sparse around the neck now after it being worn awhile and he's not a naked neck breed lol he seems content when I visit. I want a roo...I saw these and thought haaaaard about it. I decided not to. It's better than keeping a roo in a dark box 16-18 hours a day tho!
Recently on another thread they were discussing how to keep roos quiet and the same dark box was a very popular idea that made me sad. So I decided to borrow a roo for breeding when needed and wait for my own until we move. :(
I do have a packing peanut golden seabright roo that came with an order of CX tho growing out til sex is 100% I love this lil crazy guy. I assume roo but keeping the cutie til he crows :lau

Sorry, I know I shouldn't laugh, but I'm glad someone else is battling a broody! Gives a whole new meaning to "mad as a wet hen"! My Columbian Wyandotte (sp?) was a really tough nut to crack. I put her in a wire dog kennel in my barn. She ended up being there for 4 days before she "gave up". I'd turn her loose each day when I let the others out. She would then run straight back to the coop and nesting box. I would go get her and stick her back in the kennel. I finally WON!!! Sometimes it's those little battles. She's my one though, that will go broody is any eggs are left in the nesting box for any length of time. Good luck!!

That sounds like a great plan, Cracked. Like putting a child back to bed until they learn that when it's bedtime they should stay in bed and go to sleep.
