I've been wanting to show everyone this little egg cooker. It works great makes hard boiled eggs in minuets. It will cook eggs any way you like even makes omelets too. It cooks with steam. I took the eggs my hens laid that day and hard boiled them and they peeled great. If I boiled the days eggs on the stove with lots of salt I would have trouble peeling them. It's inexpensive I got it at SAMs . No more broken yolks frying eggs.

Microwave?

Angel is giving me an RIR pullet tomorrow to be Primrose's friend. Amanda and I are excited. She wants to name her Rue from the Hunger Games. We gave up on Katniss since the two baby chicks we named Katniss both died. That's Squeeker making a mess in the dog kennel coop on top. She's just playing and kicking the hay out. The dog kennel coop is to isolate a sick chicken, but I don't have a sick chicken so Squeeker is having fun. This is the coop Rue will be in while she is integrated.

Here is her travel cage.

Today I did my first weekly poop sling cleaning. Yea, it worked great. Came off easily. Dumped straight into composting. Most of it just dumped off, the few spots I sprayed with a hose and it sprayed right off and dried very quickly. The fabric really does perform like it said it would. Since it was on sale, I bought the best outdoor fabric they had. Put it back on very easily. Nice and clean again. And, the coop and nesting boxes are staying clean, too.

Your sling really was a great idea. I put a shelf under our roost I put paper feed sacks on it to catch the poop. It sticks to paper. I might go to the fabric store and put the outdoor fabric. Thanks for the idea. Pam

Thanks for the advice on the broody. I am going to get a wire cage tomorrow and hopefully it will work. Every break I had today I came home and ousted her from the box but she just kept going right back in...all the while puffing her feathers and make noises at me, that I'm sure are not fit for little ones ears!

Where did you get it? I've read many times that steaming eggs was the way to get them to peel easily.

Today was my first 5 egg day! :yiipchick not sure who is all laying but I've got a good idea. Four out of six of my original girls are laying. Out of the four chickens my husbands friend gave us, one is laying for sure and her daughter, the broody, was laying but I don't think she has the last two days. The other two I don't think they are laying but I'm not sure if they are not old enough or maybe they are older and don't lay anymore...possibly getting over a molt or something? The "friend" that gave them to us had over 50 and was moving so he was trying to find homes . He had no idea how old the birds were or anything. They all had signs of leg mites too. How can I tell how old they are? Any ideas? I think they've been here long enough (3-4 weeks) that it shouldn't be the stress of a new home to make them stop.

No. Steam, I think the microwave is bad for us. I only use it to heat things up. I'm trying to stop that. When mine breaks I'm buying a toaster oven to replace it. I think if you microwaved a egg in the shell it would explode. Lol! Pam

On a side note, Blooie on the front porch swing said that she bakes her eggs in the shell. Instead of boiling them. They peel like a dream. 350 for 20 min or so. Just a thought.
