"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I sat for a while with my three month old Rhode Island Reds today. I gave the friendliest one to a close friend of mine, who was absolutely in love, so I'm now down to 5. I'm almost certain that I have one cockerel and four pullets. The little cockerel is starting to get his shiny, pointy hackle and saddle feathers. None of the others are showing any similar signs, so I'm crossing my fingers and toes that my guess is correct. They've started their first molt, and I'm finding bunches of feathers in their pen.

We also hatched some Barred Rock and Silkie chicks over the past few days! Its so nice to hatch chicks again. Our incubator has been empty for the past few months.

Congrats!! So sweet of you to give away your friendly. Hen.

Awwww I've been sitting with mine with treats and back scratches to warm them up for Prim :gig the other girls keep butting in and ba-gawking that the reds have had nuff its their turn...made the whole flock friendlier :cd Win!

Any body in Southeast La have any fertile hatching eggs?

Not looking for anything rare, RIR, Dominique, Barred Rock, Production Reds, Wyandottes, whatever let me know what you have.

I got the itch to hatch something and I'm wanting to scratch it!

When I cook mine in a muffin tin I do the following. I line the muffin tin with Canadian bacon then add cheese , a roasted red pepper whatever you like. Then crack the egg and put on top. Then add cheese and bake 20 min. Or so. Pam :drool

Angel is giving me an RIR pullet tomorrow to be Primrose's friend. Amanda and I are excited. She wants to name her Rue from the Hunger Games. We gave up on Katniss since the two baby chicks we named Katniss both died. That's Squeeker making a mess in the dog kennel coop on top. She's just playing and kicking the hay out. The dog kennel coop is to isolate a sick chicken, but I don't have a sick chicken so Squeeker is having fun. This is the coop Rue will be in while she is integrated.

Here is her travel cage.

Today I did my first weekly poop sling cleaning. Yea, it worked great. Came off easily. Dumped straight into composting. Most of it just dumped off, the few spots I sprayed with a hose and it sprayed right off and dried very quickly. The fabric really does perform like it said it would. Since it was on sale, I bought the best outdoor fabric they had. Put it back on very easily. Nice and clean again. And, the coop and nesting boxes are staying clean, too.
Yeah....a friend for Prim!!! Keep us posted. Angel, that was very sweet of you.
As far as "Rue" goes, PLEASE be sure to explan to her that she will NOT be going into a soup pot!! It might help her transition faster. lol...
