"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Dropping in for a quick "Hi" here -- not much going on, nothing poultry-related. I'm down to about a dozen layers and five guineas. Starting to think about hatching something to add to my flock since most of them are so old now they rarely if ever lay.
Otherwise we're all hanging in there! nice 'seeing' everybody!

Ooohhh Nooo! Hope she's home to roost tonight.
Went to homedepot with Ron this evening. When we arrived home I went to close coops up. While doing head count I noticed one missing. :hit My black australorpe is missing. I knew I should have stayed home. One of my best layers of large eggs. She had only been laying for about a month. This sucks! I bought a security system but we hadn't installed yet. If any one has Black australorpes for sale let me know. Pam

Looked all over today for her or evidence of her demise. No feathers nothing thinking bird of prey. I'm putting cameras up in the next few days also setting traps tonight. Just in case she was dragged into the woods. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Pam

What an unGodly storm last night. Rained buckets and lightening. Of course we needed it. I had everybody fed but was going to go back out and check on this before it started. I decided to take a nap and the next thing I know Clint comes in telling me I left the water running, the pump house wide open and I left my walker out. Big no no.

This morning I go out to check and see how everybody weathered the storm and realized that I had left the door to the coop unlatched also. Big brain freeze yesterday I guess. Not paying attention. Luckily, the door stayed closed in all the rain and nobody got in to get my babies. I'll be more diligent from now on. On the other hand, day 21 on my SFH. They should hatch tomorrow.

Sorry for your loss, how many does that make recently? I dont have any Black Australorp hens, if i di iwould give you one, i have red sex links, the lay a big brown egg but are not a true breed so not sure if it would work with crossing, but i think i read it would be advisable to breed them.

I slep right through it, although we are about 125 miles south east of you, we had some strong wind and lots of rain i think. We dont close our hen house door any more, I know we are inviting the enemy in but have never even had an attempt on our flock since we started it in March, We have dogs within a few yards of the pen, the wild house cats do not bother them either, they were our biggest wrry to start with.

One thing I learned from Angelisi is true amercaunas have the black feet top and bottom. Easter eggers have light color on the bottom of their feet. Easter eggers come in all colors. Most amercaunas are solid colors except a few. Like weaton splash etc. anyone with more questions on this subject ask angelisi. She has a lot of knowledge on this breed. If she's not on site PM her. Pam

My Amercaunas.

Good morning, all! I sure have missed everyone - I'm going to try to not stay away so long again. I see lots of new names and also see that several of the long-timers haven't been on lately. How has everyone been?!?

Hi, girl. Great to see you seems we lost Cat Daddy, Kuntrygirl, and Terri.
