"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Looked all over today for her or evidence of her demise. No feathers nothing thinking bird of prey. I'm putting cameras up in the next few days also setting traps tonight. Just in case she was dragged into the woods. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Pam

I was looking at cameras today at Sam's. They had one set up that looked good for $200.

I need one bad but I'm going to have to set my sites lower this year. Building another coop on Sunday and I'm really stoked about that. A 12' x 12' A frame made out of pallets.. Six ft in the middle and four on the sides. It's going to be great for my small birds this year. Roosts and nest boxes included.

Thanks, Pam! I'm glad to be back!

I've been downsizing too. I'm going to focus more on my BLRW, Bresse, Basque & Olandsk Dwarfs. I have sold quite a few birds over the past few weeks. I thought I was really doing good until I counted them in my head a few minutes ago. Yes, I know each bird I have without doing a physical head count. Anyway, I discovered I have 82 birds left. That's more than I thought I had before I started downsizing lol. Umm, I guess that was denial. Looks like a few more birds need to go. Of course, 7 of those are slated for processing in the next week or 2 (more if I don't rehome a couple of other maturing cockerels). Yikes.
Maybe she'll turn up tomorrow morning. I occasionally have one that I cannot find at nightly lockup, but they usually turn up the next day. I'm crossing my fingers for her return!

Topdog - that's a pretty big egg. It's likely a double yolker.

It is huge compared to the normals eggs of my RSLs, I am looking for a mature heritage Dominique rooster, I have 5 hens but no rooster.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can get ants out of my veggie garden? I think they have made their home in the soil. It is COVERED with them. I don't want to use any poisons, and I'm unsure of what to do.
uncooked grits sprinkled around will work also, the ants take them in the nest to the queens where all feed on htem, the grits swell when eaten and explodes the ants abdomin as the ant has an external skeleton and can not swell like inter skeletal creatures stoachs do

Sorry for your loss, how many does that make recently? I dont have any Black Australorp hens, if i di iwould give you one, i have red sex links, the lay a big brown egg but are not a true breed so not sure if it would work with crossing, but i think  i read it would be advisable to breed them.

That's my 2nd loss both the australorps something has a taste for them. Or they keep getting caught away from the flock. I've had dog attacks but we saved them. They weren't my dogs. As a group everyone's had one or two except you and primrose.
I'm glad it's not my rare birds, knock on wood. I've had my hens locked up to see if the other one is laying. And to keep the one that just started laying from mating with a rooster other than the legbar.
Thanks for the offer but I like the breed and will get chicks in spring it no one has juveniles. Pam

We had a good time at the auction tonight! We got there late and the kids (who both skipped naps) were total brats, but we came home with six new girls.

Husband decided he was tired of waiting for eggs and so bought four Rhode Island White hens. I was mostly looking for color for the flock that was still in my budget. I got two pullets that looked white at the time, but I think they may actually be lavender orpingtons. They're HUGE.

The RIWs need a little tlc, which I excel at. There were 48 of them total, so someone's laying flock? They're all missing feathers on their throats and just look bedraggled. The two pullets are lovely, like doves. I keep trying to upload pics with no luck. Maybe tomorrow.
