"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

TGIF La-yers! where is everybody? I'm holding down my desk at work & wishing for 5:00 to get here! Going to pull out the winter bedspread tonight for sure! I need to get 2 more bags of shavings to finish my coop for the winter. Looking forward to making some duck and sausage gumbo this weekend!

I'm here just outside with the flock today is just too nice to stay inside.Pam

Working. All my helpers get here tonight. I love having a house full if 20-somethings. I only got to see the chickens when I let them out and checked for eggs. Four today! They must know that some are up for new homes. They've really made a mess in the yard with digging way down in the pine straw. I guess they're preparing for this front.

But I'll be outside ALL day tomorrow. I let y'all know what happens with the eggs. ;)

On a bad note, the grand kid's were tussling over positions on the couch and someone landed on my laptop and slammed the screen down on the mouse that i had set there by my chair, needless to say, it shattered the display, now i only have half a screen that works, can't even log on, so i will be looking to get it replaced quickly, all my chicken stuff is on that computer, i am using my wife's right now

Hello! I'm trying to make sure I pop in at least occasionally so I can keep up with everyone. Happy belated birthdays from the past week or so! Good to see some of you MIAs back again!

I am so not ready for winter. I am working at a benefit softball tournament today and the wind is kicking my behind. I can't believe it's getting down to freezing tonight. I left the park to come home and add to my ferment so I could take advantage of the warmth from the sunshine to keep it going.

I really need to take a couple of days to scrub down my coops and put in new bedding, but I haven't been home long enough. :(. I think I'm gonna get a shop vac so I can get the cobwebs off the ceiling without having to climb on a ladder and use the broom. My allergies really go crazy when I clean the coops and I'm miserable for 2 weeks following.

I'm so jealous of the gardens some of you have going. I insisted that my husband build my raised beds from untreated wood because I garden organically, but it's been a few years and they literally just fell apart. My uncle is going to pick up cypress boards for me to rebuild them when he goes to the mill, but it may be a few weeks. At least maybe I can have them back together for spring.

My birds are a little unhappy with me because I penned them all for a while to re-seed the poultry yard. I still rotate and let a pen out every day in the big yard to forage, but I have 7 pens to rotate. It will be nice to have grass and other greenery in there again. Sometimes the ground just needs a break. :)

Thanks for mentioning the shop vac! I have the same trouble when dusting in our new chicken barn and my allergies. I have been just using a hand held dusting brush and wearing mask over my face. The shop vac sounds like a great idea.......I will just have to see if I can get more length of hose.

We did the same thing years back with building our raised beds with untreated wood. They lasted about 3 years for most of them. Now we are switching to those poly pre fab raised bed kits. We just put them in this summer, so I don't know yet how they will last. Cedar beds would be pretty I bet.
