First eggs today from my 8 RIR!!! Yeaaaaa!!!!

The last time I had chickens was 40 years ago, so the egggcitement is genuine.

My girls are 22 1/2 weeks old. And they laid them in their nest boxes!! I found one egg in three of the four boxes - couldn't believe my eyes! I was worried they might not lay them there since someone on here said that RIRs have a tendency to hide their eggs, and within their pen there's plenty of places to hide them among the trees. I don't think Rudy, my RIR rooster, has done his job yet. But, I'm not looking to hatch any chicks right now anyway. I may try in the spring since I've never done that before - even if I am an old biology teacher. Looking forward to comparing them to store-bought eggs. The girls have plenty areas to forage under the trees and in a grassy area, so the egg color and taste should be outstanding.

There is no comparison you will never want store bought again. I still get eggsited every time a new hen lays for the first time. Glad they like their nesting boxes. Pam

Ron went to the swap today and sold the Phenox pair as soon as he got there. I was kind of attached but he needed to go. I was glad he didn't have to sit there very long. The man that bought them was there from denim springs selling he saw how good looking the rooster is and that was a done deal.:ya Pam

I must have missed him or passed him by and did not recognize him I was there. I am down to 15 hens and one rooster. Bad news is I have a puppy and now my husband says no so we will see...LOL

He saw you but he sold our pair so fast he left. He didn't want to look around and wind up coming home with more. By the time I hatch more your husband might calm down about it. We'll see lol! I don't think he'll notice one more. what kind of puppy did you get? Pam
