"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm waiting to hear back also. To get on the list for Spring. :) Don't take my spot. LOL :)

I looked at a lot of bators yesterday. For the price of the brinsea advance models you mentioned might as well kick it up a notch to the cabinets. Like Dicky's or a GQF.

I may hold off buying one for now. I learned I have access to a friend of a friend's cabinet incubator whom has good hatch rates and has been hatching a lot of chicks in the past year.
Great! That's the best of both world's. Clint, the fellow that built my coop is very interested in getting into the good birds. He is in North Shreveport and has a friend that is opening a hatchery. I want to meet this friend.

. So cold today wasn't it? I went out yesterday and put tin on 3 sides of the two coops. Got everybody fixed up. Manual labor is not my forte, but I'm alearning.

Thanks to anyone who prayed for us with the new job situation.

In my hubby's words, "He crushed it!" All his paperwork and his PT test went great and the job is his

Now I will be praying for Angels to watch over him when he is on helicopter rides around the state

I am so thankful for God's Blessings!
That's wonderful, Sweetie. My oldest and youngest DD's got new jobs this past 2 wks. They did the same thing. Nailed it at once. Brandi, the youngest is in her late 30's and still has trouble with responsibility. My fault for keeping her a baby, i'm told. She feels such an accomplishment to get this great job that she likes. Her health has been bad with back troubles and migraines for years. She was working at a sales job last year with a very troubling atmosphere. Soooo unhappy. It all came crashing down when she started have seizures again after not having them for several years. Pressure. It's only at HobbyLobby but it's her niche. Kudos to your hubby.

Wouldn't you know it, i come offshore for 2 weeks and i have a hen that refuses to leave a nest, i took 11 eggs from her Wed. evening and she didn't get out, and she is still there, wouldn't let my wife check under her yesterday or today, i told my wife to stroke her back and talk to her and be sneaky and see what she is working with, most likely 1 or 2 of her own eggs, so, if she has a couple eggs under her, they will be marked and she will be given the Cream Legbar eggs we were saving for an incubator when i get it next week. This way they will hatch my second week home, fingers crossed that all goes well. She will have to stay where she is because i didn't have the foresight to build a broody coop yet. I wasn't planning on letting one go broody this time of year.

Well, in a disappointing and infuriating turn of events I just found Evangeline's body as a hawk flew up from it. She was still warm. I can't even tell where the fatal wound is. She just looks asleep. :hit

I'm so sorry! I know she was your favorite. And you got closer threw all the nursing her back to health. Rip Evangeline! Pam

Looking forward to hearing about your go with this one if you get it.
Yes, that's the one I have. It works fine, I'm just not experienced enough to know what I'm doing. My first 2 hatches were fantastic. The last 4 were nothing. Shipped eggs were scrambled. Make sure who you buy from know's what they are doing. The last two fellows were the pits. Both sent more eggs with the same shoddy packing. Got to be double boxed with bubble wrap. If it's going more than a few miles. When you do start hatching, think about soaking your eggs 2 min in a Vitamin C cap in one pint of water. Then dry naturally and put in incubator. On days 8 through 18, leave the top off for 2 hrs if possible. Ronott1 on here recommends this and has fabulous results. The cooldown leads to less mortality, and better hatching. I did this faithfully last time, not realizing that all were clears. I take that back. One made it to about day 15. I can't candle worth a darn.

Well, that's a shame.  Before my time.  I had a PM with Jeff (Catdaddyfro) out of Lafayette a few months ago and he said he would have some ready in Sept.  Never heard back and he doesn't come on much.  So I will order from Sandhill next spring.
First my computer was down and it took days to get it back to me and now the whole area is out on internet.  Sporatic.  I saw their trucks today so maybe I can be on time with my answers.  Sorry.   :lau
Okay folks, are you ready for it?    I'm 67 and today for the first time EVER, I made bread.  The no-knead that is so easy, even I can do it.  Aimee and AJ were blown away.  She said it tasted like Superior Grill or something.  Happy.   I think I'm going to put an add on Craig's List saying if people will bring me big bags of leaves I'll make them a load of Artisan bread.   It only costs $1 to make it.  If 10 people brought me 5 bags each, I'd have 50 bags for $10.  I'm all for the barter.    ha.

Linda Jeff hangs out on facebook now. If you let me know the breed I can ask him. Or if you look at my friend list you can find him. I asked him to comeback once in a while. He was racing the season is over now so you should be able to contact him. Glad your bred turned out good. You could pm Jeff too. Pam

German New Hampshires. I want a dozen eggs. He's only 2 hours from me. I'm so broke right now that I'll have to wait.

My hardware cloth came in today but I'll have to wait until next month to have my fellow install it. Too much Christmas and things to buy. I wanted to buy bigjohn's Blosl rooster but that's got to wait until next month also. Provided he doesn't change his mind. And I'm still going to get some Marraduna Basques whenever I can.

They seem to do it when they like. Chicks that are hatched and brought up by a broody do very well. Hope she has a good hatch. They seem to know if a egg is dead and will push it out the nest. I don't know what you use to candeling but I forud it's harder to see in blue and green eggs. I might invest in one instead of using a led light. Pam

I found this pretty picture of her. I've heard that chickens don't molt in their first year, but she definitely dropped her tail feathers and so all the recent pictures (before pox) she has a gapped tail. Poor thing. Eloise (right) will miss her. They were the only two left from my original five sussex (lost one, sold two).

I wonder if that's Chris's new hamptures. I'll ask if he will have them for you in the future. Pam
