"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm pulling my hair out!

I thought I had my temps nailed down buy buying a second thermo/hygro the same brand/make/model and now that I've done more digging and understand what + or - 2F means I don't know what my temps are anymore. I don't know if there right or not. I have nothing to check them with. I don't understand why someone that sells incubators would sell a thermometer that has that much error in it. I set them side by side and one can read 99.3 and the other 100. The temps are all over the place. If I hang them both on the door where the mount is they read the same. I've read threads where folks increase the suggested temp in the bator because it's not accurate where the gauge hangs on the door. I've also read a couple threads where people have lost(cooked) there hatch because the gauge can be off by two degrees.
I picked up a couple Geratherm mercury-less oral thermo's today. I bought 5 dozen eggs from the grocery to test the bator with and now I'm popping holes in the eggs to check the temp in them. I checked the two oral thermo's under my tongue and they're about 1/10+ different from one another. I've read that low temps are safer than highs so I'm shooting for internal egg temp between 99-99.5 I'm not even sure if the orals are right because body temps can vary but I trust them more than the digitals.
Unless I can get something ordered and over-nighted........ UUUGGGHHH. I'm running out of time.

I am in Leesville. I have been looking on Bookoo.
Sean O, Sorry about your chicken, I just hatched 16 chicks, they are a week old and putting on feathers, they should lay olive eggs, of course i am in Jena, not exactly in the neighborhood, i want 5$ each for them and would meet you in Alex. if you want a few, i would need to sell 6 at that price to pay for the gas but i dont want to get rid of more than six.

A really good day. I ordered a killing cone for processing my 8 rescue Cobb 500 hens but today I heard of a fellow that really really needs some hens for eggs. So I sold him my 8 for $3 each. Giveaway prices but the aggravation was killing me. The oinkers were eating me out of house and home. . Besides I didn't want to buy them a boat for their lake that is laughingly called a coop. We had almost 5 inches in 2 days and the coop is on a slope. Just when payday hit and I had set up for the handyman to come out and put down the bags of soil as a water break., it started raining and he couldn't get in. I kept putting in more leaves and shavings but they were like ducks. Wet all over.

The old fella was thrilled to get such healthy birds at that price. I told him I fed fermented feed. He gave me such a bewildered look. He feeds "Some chops". I told him he needed to feed better to get good eggs. Hog feed has almost the same formula and is only about $11 a 50# bag. 13% protein. I also add alfalfa pellets to my mix to beef it up to 18% or so. Sometimes catfish feed. So he was very pleased with how pretty they were...... until I took him over to look at my prized Blosl and XW White Plymouth Rocks.

Man, he was stunned!!!! Immediately took out a paper and pen to give me his number to call when I start getting babies hatched. In fact, everyone single person that has come out has done the same. I have a list of 5 different people and that was just from when I sold the Golden Comets. They are spectacular. Well, I think so..

They must also.
I'll be getting in my 40 ISA Brown pullets from Townline after the first of next month. That's when I'm going to switch over to the Azure organic feed. And I'm getting my supplies ready for my garden. I was on a garden FB site to other day and one lady said the if Judi somebody or other has some extra San Marzana tomato seeds could she send some. Well, I was very cheeky and sent her a PM also asking for some. As a newbie, I had heard ready good things about them. Well, she sent me 10 different veggie seed packs. I was overwhelmed and thanked her on her FB page as well as wishing her a happy birthday. She contacted me a day or two and ask if I received them. I told her to look for her birthday submissions and she would see that I checked in. I told her what I plan on doing about my mini co-op idea of eggs and veggies and she has decided that I need a helping hand and is sending me a bunch more packets. What can I say? I love ya!!!!
I am feeling very positive about the coming year and hope we all have a banner one. Good luck to us all.

Cody, fill a glass with crushed ice, or ice cubes, fill with water, wait 2 minutes and place the bulb of therm. in the center of the ice water, and hold it there for about a minute, it should read 32 degrees, if it reads 34, then run your temp. 2 degrees high, if 30, run it 2 degrees lower.

TD, I've read to do that but the thermos I bought today are for measuring body temp so they don't go to 32 degrees. LOL

I'm desperate so I ordered one of these. Should be here by Tuesday. My pocket has a hole in it.

Thank you for the advice. :) I read on the forum where someone else bought this to calibrate their thermo.

It's supposed to be fun not stressful. I'm happy to wait till you feel you have your bator calibrated . If you don't message me otherwise I'll keep to schedule . Pam
