"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Wish y'all could've heard the wind at my house today! Sounded like a cartoon ghost parade going through the living room.

We talked about covering some plants, and them didn't. I was pretty sure we had a hard freeze back I'm November, but husband said this will be the coldest temps since last January. I didn't pick our grapefruit; they're still several weeks from being ripe. Last winter's freeze nearly killed the whole thing, but we still got a few little fruits. Almost. About 6 or 7 all together, compared to the 100s the year before.

I didn't do much for the chickens, either. I added a few boards to cover a gap, and fluffed up the hay. Being in the yard they have a pretty good windbreak with the trees and privacy fence. So I'm not too worried about them. I guess I'll find put on the morning if I regret my decisions or not.

I think I'm going to try it. I'm not sure what to do regarding leaving the eggs in the bator and turning it off to cool down or take them out and leave the bator running.

For mine I haven't kept to a 2 hour block for cool down ever tho I can program mine to do a cool down. When I open and move my eggs around and do my turning my eggs in the other direction I let that be my cool down. Linda did 2 hatches without a cool down that hatched almost all eggs. I'm looking forward to see it she hatches more this time. Pam

We still can what day are you on? :)
Cody, i am going on day one, noon Thursday will complete my first day, i have 23 of mixed batch eggs that covers five breeds.Shooting for Jan.28,

That's a good question, that I hadn't considered. Turning it off would make sense for mine because of the exposed heating element? Would the bator work too hard trying to keep it at temp? I guess you still have a week to decide.
I've been running mine empty since it arrived in early Dec. What I'm getting at is it takes several hours(depending on room temp) with cold eggs for it to get back to optimum temps.
I don't see why It would hurt to take them out and leave the bator running. When a hen leaves the nest the eggs begin cooling immediately rather than slowly cooling down in the bator.

Pam, what do you think about me taking the eggs out rather than leaving in the bator?

Is there a specific temp to shoot for? Didn't Linda say 75 degrees for 2 hrs.

Brinsia says from day 7 to day 18, 3 hrs every 24 hrs for chicken eggs, but as i wont be here from day 7 to day 15, i dont know how much improvment i would see from doing it day 15 to 18.
