"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Those first few hatches while you are learning what works for you can be really stressful. It took me ages to be able to just chill out. I have to knock of some rust as it is when I get this next hatch going. Some have found it helpful to read over this link about how and when to assist if you run into trouble. I personally like to know what to do if something doesn't go according to plan myself. Of course some people don't help chicks and think they will be weak and die anyways but I have not found that to be true at all and I have hatched hundreds and helped quite a number. I had to help the big fluff himself out, who ended up being too big for his egg and he has grown into one fine bird (This guy I showed the other day).

Thank you Buggles, I've read the page you linked. I just hope I don't have to assist anyone this time. If I do I'll definitely have to read it again a few times. I've watched a few youtube vids of the process so kind of have an idea of how to create a zip. Seeing as how these were shipped eggs with distorted air cells I guess there's a good possibility some could have problems.

Linda, it's here when you need it. I wouldn't be against taking a road trip west. I'd love to see your birds anyway. Just throwing it out there for ya.

Terri good luck on your eggs. I had a parcel go missing last month. If they got lost and went to the parcel recovery system in Atlanta I'm afraid you can kiss them goodbye.

Not to freak you out but I tend to always have to help some out when the air cells get messed up from shipping. They can cause the chicks to have trouble positioning correctly. Just keep a close eye out for them and don't blame yourself for any that don't quite make it. It sucks but sometimes you will lose chicks and you can't beat yourself up over it.

I'm glad you told me. I know now what to expect. :)

By the way there's a few pullet eggs and one has pipped. I'm going to re-read the assist guide now.

Birdman the peacocks are beautiful. :)

When you get ready for a road trip, just let me know. I don't have much to show except my white rocks. But they are worth looking at . Hopefully I'll be getting some of the CCL from Pam soon. (Eggs) And later, some EE blue eggs from topdog. (You know I'm kinda wanting some DOMS also). When are you getting your Barred rock chicks from Ken? I had great plans to buy 40 ISA Brown pullets from Townline, but I'm almost tempted to really bump that down and go for the color of he others. It'll take a little longer with eggs but........ Decisions. :D
