Glad you figured it out.

Hopefully some will hatch for you.

Oh, no, Prim! I am so sorry to hear you lost Selena. I will be setting a few Basque, white Bresse and Olandsk Dwarf eggs to check fertility. I may even have a couple of BLRWs to add. You are welcome to any fluffy butt that hatches!
Sorry you didn't have a better hatch. Shipped eggs are such a gamble; I have had a range of success from zero to 100% with shipped eggs. It depends on so many factors that are out of control of the shipper (as long as they are packed well). I have Sebastopol eggs in the incubator now. They were shipped from a friend in Florida. I know her Sebbie eggs are fertile and she does an amazing job of packing, but it appears that only 1 of the eggs is growing. The postal service can be really hard on them.
I know the feeling. I recently lost my beautiful Sebbie girl to a predator and cried my eyes out. Still so sad over her loss. RIP Ruffie. :(

So sad for everyone's losses. I sure hope her eggs are fertile!
Yum!!! Homemade yogurt! Do let us know how it turns out.
My stepfather really wants to raise pheasants to eat, but they are such pretty birds! I must read your article!

Thanks to everyone for your dear comments and offers after Selena died. I'm still sad over it and know this is the place for comfort. It's here that you understand grief following the death of one of our sweet girls. And, boys, too. Mzstre, thanks for your offer. I think I would like to raise a fluffy butt again. I saw on this or another thread about securing a feather duster in a corner of the brooder for it to his in. I have the lamps and everything I need. I want to raise it in the house so I can hold it A LOT. All my girls are sweet, but two of them can only be petted and kissed when they are sleepy. Lol. Primrose is my tamest and she was cuddled a lot. She's follows me like a dog and makes a special angry sound and pecks me if I don't pick her up and carry her around. A couple of you offered me a fluffy butt from hatches. Let me know how your hatches go. I only want one.
I am SOOOOO sorry for the loses of your chickens and goose. I understand your grief. Hugs.

not sure but roosters I have are barred rock, and two ee, hens are Sumatra, leghorns, ee, isa browns, and some more im sure I forgot...but there a mix...I wont get into pure breeds until I get my current coop job of 20 coops done...so far ten done....so making progress....check out the learning center under other fowl they just opened it....a lot of great articles and facts
was wondering if they were Amerucana. My Amerucana has green legs and the chicks look very similar to my amerucana chicks. That's why i asked... you have beautiful birds!

You are So sweet. I finally had my girls in pairs: 2 Ametcaunas, 2 RIR and 2 Black Star. I live in a subdivision and I'm really pressing my luck with 6 chickens. But, when I only had one RIR the others picked on her, so Angelici gave me another RIR. now, since Selena died, I was thinking I should get a Black Star to be company for the now solo Black Star. What do you guys think? Is it better to have breed buddies?

I really don't know if it's better to have breed buddies.. minecraft has been different breeds when they R young and handled with the ones they are going to be with, I never had a problem and chickens don't mind. They just like a buddy.

Mine are all different and from different places at different ages. It does seem like they stick together, though. The white hens (4) are usually together, the SS (4) tend to clump up, and the orpingtons (2) don't get far from each other. My two australorp mixes hang out with the FBCM, though. So maybe just another black chicken would be fine. And sometimes they're all mixed up and mingled. They roost all mixed up, too.
