Two questions: first, eggs. Should I go ahead and set today's eggs with the rest? Or do they need to rest a bit? Or does it actually matter...?

Second, raspberries. I bought two varieties, a red and a gold. We want to grow them up one of our crosses on site, creating a cool teaching visual (fruit of the vine, crown of thorns, etc.). But the kind I have are everbearing and their recommended pruning is to "mow down" every fall. So should I save my vine-training efforts for a different variety? I also have a dewberry, which might work better...

i landscaped and ran my own landscaping business for about ten years...i dont think i would mowe down the raspberries but i would cut them down to like a foot...promoting good new growth as the berries come from the new growth...we always did like 2-4 feet wide paths and however long you want them to be...just easier to pick from both sides...just keep in mind that we sprayed the inner sections that we walked on twice a year for they will creep out into the area where you dont want them....we put either woodchips down or rock on our walkways...i have never trellised any raspberry plant..we were getting five gallon buckets full to...our house in michigan is loaded with raspberries...and im talking prolly 6 acres worth...and we dont even pick them...the animals love them...

as for a great vine...hopps....they will grow 20 plus feet in one year...so you can weave that thing up and down whereever you want it to go.....we have hopps vines at both of our houses and on a fence line..they will take the whole thing up no matter how long of a fence you give them...and they come back year after year...you will have to pull the vines down and cut at base as the following year they grow new vines.

as for the egg you can incubate and not turn those eggs for a day....and they will still be hatched at the same time as the other ones....

hope this helps
