"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Oh yea! Thanks Pam I forgot about the neck feathers. I'll look closer at them.

Edit: All 32 birds have pointed hackle and saddle feathers. I just shake my head.

I already posted pics in birdman's thread, so I'll post a different one here. :D

This is the little fence I'm working on, to keep the chickens out if this section of the yard. I used the fallen sapling for posts and I'm cutting down sucker trees for the cross pieces. The yard is looking great! :lau

You could practise Caponing. That might be the fait of my roos that don't sell. Pam

^ That's an interesting thought Pam. Think I'll just let these guys move on to their ultimate destination. I'm a little sad none of them are hens. It won't be easy dispatching all of them, although I know I'll enjoy eating them. If I contact Ideal I may be able to get some sort of refund or credit. I am a bit irritated that out of 32 there are no females but they've been good starter birds and I've learned a lot from them.

Oh no! That's the worst luck. Are you sure? My hens all have elongated feathers that caused many a stressful moment when they were young. Especially my tomboy pullet who stands like a roo.

Can you use the barring to identify on hatchery stock? Roos have two of the barring genes and should have crisper lines than hens, who only have one.

I've spent quite a bit of time worrying that each pullet was a roo, so I'm still :fl for you!!

I've thrown my hands in the air when it comes to these hatchery birds and what the colors of purebred rocks are supposed to look like some are dark some are light but they look and most of them act like roos. Dance with wing dropped at each other and me. Some try to hump me. I don't know if the barring genes you refer to even matters since these aren't purebred birds??? I've read that you can have hens that crow also, I would think that it would be more rare or unusual for that though.

That's the worst. Sorry. :(

Soup for everyone!

I would contact them, even if you bought straight run, barred rocks are supposed to be an auto sexing breed. ..
