In the Brooder
I found some online closer but I'm always iffy about craigslist. Being my first chickens I have no idea what to look for.

Pam, I put all the birds together today. They got a little rough but everyone survived.
How are your bieles doing in the heat compared to your other breeds. My birds are hot but it is in the 90's. They're ok during the day because they stay in the woods but in the evenings when they come to roost they seem miserable with the panting.

The tale of two broodies! Now that they each have chicks they are so happy! And of course I love seeing babies in the yard.
Family portrait! First-time broody and the only roo. Chicks are sussex and sussex mixes. All from the yard.

My French black copper marans broody with her new babies! It's the second time she's gone broody this year. Two light brahmas, and two white marans from Cluckin Chicken Farms in Dry Creek. The transfer went really well. She bit me several times, but I did the whole thing in the pitch dark. Slipped the eggs out, slipped the chicks in.

I'm beginning to think I picked the wrong breed. They grow to slow, are late layers, and seem to be having trouble with the heat. They aren't too hot until they're on the roost in the coop. Then they're panting like dogs. I couldn't build the coop anymore ventilated than it is. I don't want a breed that I have to put a fan onAll mine that aren't laying yet are fine my older trio is having a hard time with it more so than last year. I will be freezing some milk gallons to put it their coop. Plus I have a fan that I put on in the coop haven't done it yet but will drag everything out today. I also but a bird bath or baby pool with cool water so they can wet their feet. It helps them regulate their temp. Pam
