"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I found some online closer but I'm always iffy about craigslist. Being my first chickens I have no idea what to look for.

The lady at Cluckin Chicken has good stock. I was there yesterday getting light brahmas and white marans. You can find her on Facebook. I think her number is on the page, and you can call or text with questions. You can also see pics of her stock.

If you're passing through anyway, I'd recommend her. :)

Pam, I put all the birds together today. They got a little rough but everyone survived.

How are your bieles doing in the heat compared to your other breeds. My birds are hot but it is in the 90's. They're ok during the day because they stay in the woods but in the evenings when they come to roost they seem miserable with the panting.

All mine that aren't laying yet are fine my older trio is having a hard time with it more so than last year. I will be freezing some milk gallons to put it their coop. Plus I have a fan that I put on in the coop haven't done it yet but will drag everything out today. I also but a bird bath or baby pool with cool water so they can wet their feet. It helps them regulate their temp. Pam

:welcome you will get better birds from a breeder than a hatchery. If you are on F B look up poultry for sale in your area. They probably have a buff Orpington group that can help you learn what to look for. This site also has a breed page that will give you basic info. Pam

Whew buddy! It's July 1st and I think I've finally warmed up.

Garden is coming along and all the chickens are hot, but handling it fairly well. Lots of shade and fresh water.

The tale of two broodies! Now that they each have chicks they are so happy! And of course I love seeing babies in the yard.

Family portrait! First-time broody and the only roo. Chicks are sussex and sussex mixes. All from the yard.

My French black copper marans broody with her new babies! It's the second time she's gone broody this year. Two light brahmas, and two white marans from Cluckin Chicken Farms in Dry Creek. The transfer went really well. She bit me several times, but I did the whole thing in the pitch dark. Slipped the eggs out, slipped the chicks in.

That is adorable! Nice switcheroo ;)

I have had a terrible time getting pictures of these little girls. They are always on the move! This is part of our red Cochin project. I am happy with the color on these girls. I know they are young, but I still think they REALLY are going to need added width overall. We are going to leave them with this guy as he is just a big fluffy cushion. These girls are about 21 weeks now. I caught a couple checking out the nest boxes a few times in the last couple of days. Hopefully that means eggs soon!!!!

We have a few babies that are red x black crosses from our other pairings. I have some more eggs ready for the incubator too. Finally getting a hint movement in our project.

I'm beginning to think I picked the wrong breed. They grow to slow, are late layers, and seem to be having trouble with the heat. They aren't too hot until they're on the roost in the coop. Then they're panting like dogs. I couldn't build the coop anymore ventilated than it is. I don't want a breed that I have to put a fan on

They cost too much to feed as it is.

Once again thank you for the advice.
