"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hi everyone!! I'm new to raising chickens and I just found yall!! I am starting to build my chicken coop and I was wondering what yall are using in your coops (wood chips vs sand etc) I'm thinking sand but just wanted input from some fellow southerners!! Thanks!

Welcome! I've literally used everything. Sand is my favorite, but hay is good too. With the hay I'm doing the "deep litter" method and that's going pretty well. What kind of chickens are you going to get?

I have 3 Gold Sex Link, 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Amercauna. They are in a chicken tractor right now as they were only a few days old when we got them. My husband is in the process of building their coop. I have sand in the tractor now as it stays in one location. I was really concerned about fleas and mosquitos with the heat and humidity but it seems like my biggest battle right now is flies! Pesky things!! It seems like most of the info I have seen are people who live in the North and what type of sub=straight they use. I wanted the opinion of a fellow southerner as we seem to have more "Critters" down here. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Welcome! I've only been on here a short while but there is tons of help here!!! What area are you in?

I think I misunderstood your other post. Next time I'll get with you before I bid. :)   I don't know any tricks to bidding.
Are you at liberty to disclose the other auction site ;)  How much are they selling them for Pam. Chicks or eggs?

Also wanted to ask how fast they grow? Can you tell at two months?

I've answered some of your questions in a pm. I have the Bresses and they grow pretty fast. These are 8 weeks this week before this week they seemed to be growing at a normal rate. This week every day it looks like they grow every night. I asked Ron today if he thought so or is it just me. He said they are definately having a rapid growth spurt.
