I don't feel confident shipping eggs right now, and especially in this heat. But I'll be spending some time with my folks later this month and again in August, so I could bring eggs with me then. They just moved over close to Amite.
I'm growing out some pullets, but until I get my second coop I'm just absolutely out of room. My young EEs are roosting on top of the coop and tractor because there's no room anywhere else. The Kinder auction is next Friday, and I'm hoping after that to have more manageable numbers.
Hey, y'all! I'm new here.. Been wanting to pop in and say hello. I got 4 baby pullets from the Hammond Feed and Seed back at the beginning of May and they are doing well. We have them in a large chicken wired yard and the coop is made, but still needs nesting boxes added and to be painted. Our 1 year old Catahoula Leapard dog, Luna, is doing well with them. She likes to run at them when we let them roam and expects them to play back, but hasn't gotten rough with them at all. I live in Baptist, on the boarder between Hammond and Albany. I like this group you've all got going, nice to see others around me are engaging and helping each other out. I just finished making a waterer with a large plastic bottle and tray.. Much easier to add ice to and keep filled than the little ceramic dishes I was using before, lol. I saw someone mentioned a while back thinking of trying to grow garlic this year.. Good luck! I just pulled up my first batch in May. It was a lot of work considering I hand tilled the ground myself! I didn't get any scapes and was surprised the bulbs didn't succumb to all the water we got over the spring, only lost about 1/4 to neck rot. All in all, a fun experience. These pics are a couple months old, chicks have grown since then!

I am thinking about getting more sussex eggs from you, i have 4 of the five that hatched and 3 of them are roos.I'm bringing speckled sussex hatching eggs and baby cockerels to the Moss Bluff swap tomorrow! If you're there, stop by and say hello.I'm not telling my prices because Pam will fuss, but I'm desperate to get rid of these suckers.![]()
Shoot Cody, i am a member of 30 FB groups and one of my own, (elcamino corridor everything poultry and livestock) several of our members are members from this group. She loves her chickens. She has failed poultry algebra 101 several times!Obviously she has no concept of our chicken math. She has built up an egg clientele and sells them like hotcakes.![]()
I don't know how she makes any money with the feed bills. She just loves her chickens! She won't butcher them for herself(soft-hearted) so she has been giving me her excess cockerels. My freezer is full. There is no way I'll eat that many birds before this hatch is old enough to cull. Did I say she loves her chickens! I've tried to get her to join our group but she's already a member of a FB group.
im wondering, is everyone in this thread from Louisiana?
Thank you so much!Pretty much. I think we have visitors from out of state come visit with us every now and then.
Welcome!
