My dad is visiting this week, and today he took this picture of me with my favorite EE cockerel. I toted that baby around for almost an hour, teaching the kids about roosters and letting them pet him. He's a good roo. We took lots of selfies.
Who me? I'm innocentI won two auctions for Barbezieux chicks. One from GFF and the others came from S. LA. They arrived this morning. These babies are very active and have been bouncing around the brooder.

I'll say they're lively! They're kinda impressing me. Very vigorous and rowdy. They certainly moved in and set up shop fast. I envision this breed when grown to be very speedy and quick on they're feet compared to the Bieles. When I took them out of the shipping boxes they were quick to find the food, water, and heat source. I lost one within 45 minutes of unpacking. Only thing I can figure is it may have inhaled some water. I didn't dip their beaks, learned my lesson the first time. So I don't know. Then I face palmed and wondered how I'd know which ones are which if I lost more than the extras that were sent.I knew I should have toe punched a box of them. Oh well too late now. I was sent four extra chicks total so hopefully I won't lose too many.
Oh and do they eat! They are sucking the food downThey're eating more than the Biele chicks did.
What kind are you hatching? I just hatched Svart Honas and Ayan Cremani. Also Xw rocks all expencive. PamI have some very expensive eggs in the incubator at the moment and could use everyone's good mojo on them. I've hatched plenty before but this is my first time with shipped eggs. A lot of them have saddle air cells, and they are so darkly shelled that I can't see in them. Today is day 18, and I have the incubator rigged up especially for them. I've got each egg divided from the others, and a cup with a sponge inside with a tube leading out and a syringe on the end so I can add water if needed. Out of 12, I tossed one stinky one, and one of them is much lighter than the others. I'm really hoping these hatch. Awakened One, perhaps you could start with a simple mixed breed flock? They could be your guinea pigs so you can get a good handle on the whole chicken business. I hate to say it, but they can also be used to test the strength and resistance of your coop. If you are interested, I will have some very good quality Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks for sale come springtime. Not only are they beautiful to look at, they are also docile and great duel purpose birds. They lay well, have good carcasses, and make great mothers if need be.
