Ive been busy :-/ neighbors flipn Boston terrier got him, i swear i got more of that messy dye on him than me! My ole man wants to name him barney ;) hes doin better everyday, and we survived this attack, but improvments have been serious. I was letting them live free ranged because i knew they were roosting in a good spot and that they stay close. Theyre sort of imprinted on me. Ive never had any inclination to clip wings, letting them keep their escape wasnt the Plan... but it will be from now on.

That terrier has been living here longer than Myself, and im at two years. i thought he was safe, hes never displayed Any aggression toward any of my "flock" (including dogs and cats!) or ourselves... But apparently turkey dinners too good to resist. Ive heard ducky dinner too...

The thing about the birds that i didnt understand, is how it isnt just a "loss," its heartbreak! I wouldve cried and cried to loose him, especially knowing how i am their protector they depend on me, i have failed them in this instance and it could have cost us his life. His life isnt even important in $ signs-- its always the favorite bird/birds whom are attacked :(

I know my mother would be giddy over blue or green eggs. Probably 2 blue/green layers and 2 large brown layers. She wants 2 doz eggs per week on average.

Sorry your turkey got attacked Turk. That terrier will probably be a problem in the future.

My neighbors dog I thought I could trust because she was fine around my birds, that is until she killed one of my juveniles.

I've only got four right now, but hopefully I'll get a couple more before I go for it. And hopefully by the time these hatch, the other two pullets will start laying and I can have a bigger hatch the second go around

I find the dogs with poultry problem a tough one, especially since my own dogs have to be watched. Free roaming dogs are definitely a problem, but it is even tougher when the dogs are your own or are a neighbors that stayed within its space. I know some poultry enthusiasts view dogs as nuisances, and would get rid of a dog if it attacked their birds. I personally can't hold that view, and if one of my dogs got a bird it would be of my own fault and I would take better precautions for the future.

I'm very sorry to hear about your turkey, and definitely understand the sentiment you have over him. So much time and love goes into our birds, and any loss is very hard to deal with.

I believe ur right Cody. probly the whole ordeal started as the dog was playing, cuz he plays with my cats, and once he got a good start to worked up, he was frenzied... Got a taste now, he Cant b trusted Ever, and i will make it a point not to let the birds free unless i can literally Stand Right There... Its sad but neccesary. U should hear the turkeys (theyre so Personoified!) they cry for me snd freedom, constantly, it would make u sit in there pen all day ;)

Don't be so had on yourself it happens to everyone. It's always the one you are attached too. If it happened on your property the neighbor is at fault. Glad you caught him and saved him. Oh yeah wear gloves when using blue cote. Hope he heals fast for you! Pam
