"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

She's alive! :celebrate

I don't know how she got away, but she was waiting for me this morning with the three who roosted in the trees. I picked up some scratch so I can get them all in the coop this evening before dusk. :D

The culprit is a BIG FAT raccoon. I tried to get a shot but dropped my light. Guess I'm staking out again tonight. What's the best thing to bait a raccoon trap with?

Sorry your having such a hard time. Set your trap too use canned sardines. It's propally a momma with mouths to feed. I'm glad you found survivers. Pam

Pam, these Barbezieux are growing like weeds. I'm impressed and so far am happy with what I'm seeing. They are the most energetic little things. They could practically scratch their way out of the coop. It's taken them awhile to warm up to me. I had one sleep in my hands today, one of the few that will let me pick it up. I've been winning them over with dried meal worms. That go absolutely nuts when they see the red bag. All I have to do is pick it up and they here they sound of the plastic. Wish I had a video camera to show ya'll.

How are your newest Bieles doing? They should be about the same age as my second hatch. Are any of them showing side sprigs? How's their growth rate and size compared to your older ones?

I'm stil alive haven't posted in some time, but wanted to share this! I lost half of my hens and several guineas to opossums, a trapper from north louisiana gave me a tip it works take a cheeseburger wrapper from a fast food restraint put a bananna in it, wad it up and throw it inside. most other animals will ignore it but opossums can't pass it up. My cats never get in the trap anymore and we've disposed of 10 since March!

They are growing to a good size. They're combs are still small no signs yet. They are growing at the same rate as the others. I'm liking the Barbezieuxs too.I'll take new pics tomorrow and post them. Pam

Mine must be a little ahead of yours then. Hatched in mid March. They were all showing sprigs except one. I butchered them Sat. They were a bit small. Two are going in the oven this afternoon for a roast at 325* for about 3.5 hrs. They should be tasty.

I culled all the males with sprigs and am considering a random hatch in a month to see what I get.
