"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Awesome! Rouens are bred closely from mallards and the mallards lay a variety of pretty greens :)
I did Not hatch it or buy it from a reputable breeder, im really not mad or anything like that, i only paid 5$ /head And they were about a month old worth at least twice that much. Ive worried about their lines already becuz theyre feet and bills arent nearly as dark as they should be. There is a range of colors like your thinking, like chickens, But they should be a white/grey/black range. The green egg throws me. I'll have to entirly restart that flock if i wanna breed em. Right now though? Im just thankful i got Any eggs! those are the only two today!

Not to sound too dumb, but do duck eggs taste like chicken eggs? I've never had duck eggs.

You dont sound dumb at all!! I get that question All the Time! The answer?

NO! Ive heard it from mutiple people, duck eggs are richer, and its often advised to use them for baking becuz they make Great baked goods!

Those are stunning ducks. You must have a mix in your line somewhere. I'll have all black hatching eggs in a few weeks or so. No mix in my line. Chickens tho no ducks. Pam

Hey now i dont no temptin! Altho I :love my ducks, mixed blood an all! Thank you, your right they are a stunning breed, and eventually i want a real flock of em. I picked up those guys for a gran total of 35$, my first duck flock for experiments ;)

When you see the pure ones though? Lots of the hens are mottled badly with white after their first molt, thats where the real challenge comes in, lessening the amount of the white on the hens, thru Years of breeding and culling for less of it. Then theres the struggle of Purple, the feathers that have the purple sheen vs the green are DQ, theyre actually formed differently, backwards. Then you have the regular issues w size, legs and bills...

Secondly, Theyre Very endangerd, you cant find really nice ones just anywhere, like u tol me, Reputable Breeder... Its neccesary. You can get birds anywhere but the quality ones? Those arent just anywhere.

That is really hard on rare breeds. Unless they import new lines from other countries. The mottling is lack of culling. It's hard to kill a rare breed. I try to sell them to people who don't breed. But eventually you will have to kill a cull.
I'm having a very hard time with my first Biefelder rooster. He's a big sweety. But inbreed too much so I'm selling him to a family for their thanksgiving meal. I may have my first cry over my chickens. But it's part of having and breeding them. Pam

I was scared to text u before 8 AM

Text me anytime, I work for myself so sleep comes seldom. Sometimes I'm up and working at 3 am and sometimes I'm just going to bed then. I just now came back into my office to work a few more hours...I just turn the ringer off when I do get to sleep. Not to mention my 6 yo that wants Mom all the time.

<---- that's what I feel like when I hit the bed.

How's it going? Anything from the marans or campines?
