And Thank You for such a Warm Welcome!!!

Welcome! (You hadnt heard it from me yet :lau ) neat lil farm you have! I want goats and geese, but this lil squat of land just isnt enough.

Your welcome I have a line of pygmies does but then I'd have to (from what I understand) go with a nigerian buck. Since the pygmy is so small and I really want milk a nigerian would work ok but hard to locate around here. The thought was 1 Lamancha 1 pygmy and 2 nigerians. The goats would provide basically lactose free milk for a few critters, & my grandson and cheese :) The high butterfat of the Nigerian and lamanchas make better cheese. Most of my knowledge comes from books though but I've spoken to Boar goat raisers and went to state fair to pick the brains of dairy folks lol

My goal is alot like what you have there, 5 dairy goats. I would like for them to be reg. pure and all so the kiddos are a side crop. I intend to use the milk supply for rasing bottle calves and finishing meat birds.

I have 22 hens/pullets from 2 yrs to 6 months. The egg is from one of the Easter babies.

I have zero "laying" hens, and I'm feeling a little salty about it. :rant

Guess I should have asked how many hens "old enough" to lay instead of "layers". We have about the same "of age" hens, I have 21, but I'm still getting 4 to 8 a day. I guess with the holidays and such the eggs are in higher demand right now and I can't even keep a dozen for more than a day.

Just lost my roo. So I'm going to get out of the sussex for a while. I've got three hens and a pullet chick if anyone is interested. One has too much white, but the other two have excellent form. Pm me.

Sorry to here about your roo! I'd be happy to help if you have a interest in any breeds I have. I always give the layers a good deal. Pam

Thanks Pam. Maybe after I get the big coop on January.

Happy holidays to everyone! I have a question......so over the last week I've completed adding a 100'x 50' run that is fenced with 5' welded wire. Today was the first day they were let out using the auto coop door. I went out there a little while ago and one of my SLW hend was on the outside!? Lol what now?
