"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

We just moved from Florida to Abita Springs and had to go through NPIP for inspections... the process was super easy and convenient - they came to our house, took all the samples and I had a certificate in a week or so emailed to me.

They checked for Pullorum-Typhoid & Avian Influenza.

:welcome to the La- yers. Tell us about your flock . We like pics too. Pam

I hope this is alright to post. I have four white crested black polish roosters that I need to get rid of,( they are getting thier crest plucked out.) They are 20 weeks old and have started to crow a couple of weeks ago. I live in the central Louisiana area. Maybe a trade like one pullet of about the same age of any breed. Thanks ahead of time. Greg

It's 18' across and 12' deep. Each "coop" is 6'x12' and so is the porch/breezeway/DOG TROT in the middle. The slant at the top will be covered in hardware cloth for ventilation: no more frostbite!

There's a nice big viewing window in the front, and one on the side where the nest boxes are going. Straight back is the pop door for them to go to pasture. The low opening on the right wall is a trap door for coop cleaning.

I wanted more windows, but we can cut those later. The couple is going to South Africa next week, so Friday is their last day to work until they get back. While they're gone we'll rip the pallets for the siding. I'm thinking tin for the roof.

I'm trying to add in access and viewing for educational purposes. The door openings SHOULD even be big enough for a wheel chair. Egg box flaps will open toward the breezeway, so kids can pick eggs without stepping in or around waste. Better bio security this way, too.

Any thoughts or critiques?

Great job! Well thought out plan too. Pam

Hi, everyone! I have been working lots so little time to spend with my chickens. Thankfully my husband has picked up my slack. I got home before dark and got a pic of one of my chicks who was sold to me as a black orpington. She has the black legs, feathers and all but is developing what looks suspiciously like a beard/muff. Give me your honest opinion on what she may be :)

Thanks for the info! I'm hoping they will call me back soon.
