"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Well, out of the five chicks I got from Pam all were boys but one gull that matched the gull boy so I gave them to Christina, but I had given Christina 6 chicks so she gave me two back a Barred Rock and Silver Laced Wyandotte. So, all is well. I re-did my fodder screens and the girls are having a great time everyday eating fodder. They love it.

I am unsure if it appropriate to post this here, please inform me if otherwise. My husband and I are looking for a rental apartment/house/townhome available late December or January that would allow our two ducks and two dogs. Somewhere within 45mins of Baton Rouge preferably. I got home from work today and one of my three chickens had been killed. I live in a city but my back yard backs up to a small forested area with some rural animals. I let my chickens free range my back yard with chicken wire across the bottom of my 6’ privacy fence. I’ve had them for 10 months or so and never seen another animal in my yard.

Tony had her breast area completely eaten out, her feathers spread over a 5’ area and her intestines laying out a few feet from her body. She still had her head on.

Any idea what it could have been? I thought it would have been a raccoon but it was sometime during the day. I will be locking my other two chickens up and keeping them in their coop till I figure out what could have happened. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a opossum, even though nocturnal they can forage during the day, especially when it starts getting chilly. I am so sorry for your loss. :hugs
 
Anyone in the Hammond area have some tips for what predators to focus on? The Northshore seems like it may carry some new fauna with all the different flora.
