I can't wait to get my cukes in the ground! I put up so many pickles last year -- if you like pickles I highly recommend the Gurney's Burpless Hybrid II pickler and also Eureka -- never saw so many cukes in my life!
Did anyone have strong winds in their city today? Well, I came home today and saw that different things were all over the yard. The cat's feed and water bowls & the trash cans were all over the yard. I rushed inside to change from my work clothes to my yard clothes so that I could begin my chores. I unlock the the gate to the chicken yard and I noticed that the chicken house door was closed. Then I looked a few feet over and saw that the doors on the chicken houses were blown off and on the ground. I was speechless. It looked like someone had got into the chicken yard and ripped the doors off. I immediately opened the chicken house to see what was going on in there and to make sure that no animals were hurt and everyone was ok in there. I then walked around the chicken yard to make sure that no animals in the chicken yard were hurt due to high/strong winds. No one was hurt but I did see that a few of the doors on the chicken stalls were closed and some of the chickens and ducks were trapped inside. So, I opened the doors and they came flying out. One of the turkeys that was sitting on eggs in another location must have got off of her turkeys eggs to get some food and water and was not able to get back into her area because the wind blew the doosr shut, so she decides to take over the muscovy duck nest of eggs.
So, I had to pick her up and carry her back to her nesting area and place her back on her eggs. I hate moving those turkeys.
They are so stong and their wings flap so hard and loud, it almost scares me.
After checking everyone and finsihing the chores, I had to try to put the doors back up to secure the girls for the night. Everyone is safe and secure for the night. I called my relative to find out what the weather was in our city today and he said that the winds were VERY strong. He said that is was not nice. That explains the chicken coops doors being ripped off the hinges. Oh well. Nothing I can do about that.
Wow! Nothing like that,. so glad all the critters are OK. do you think the turkey's eggs will be Ok,. she wasn't off the nest too long??
It was windy here,. but in a soft, pleasant way,. DH and I were sitting in some chairs outside this evening enjoying it with the flock free ranging around us when a hawk came flying right down over us about 4 feet over our heads,. it was a small bird and was probably after one of the Cardinals or Chickadee's that were all over the place,. too small to tackle a big ole' Barnevelder,.. but is sure was a shock to the system.

Her eggs should be ok. I think that she was only off of them for several hours. I guess she decided to eat and she stayed gone too long and by the time she returned, all havoc broke lose and all of the doors were slammed shut by the wind. I hope the eggs are ok. I have a waiting list of people who want these turkey poults.
A hawk? WOW! Scary. Glad that the birds are ok and you all were outside. It's so nice to sit outside and enjoy the evening the way that you all did. I enjoy doing that on the weekends.
