Oh wow how do people deal with this all the time??? Can't get the humidity up in this homemade incubator/hatcher and I'm not sure what else to do. The pan I have water in is like 10" long x 5' wide x 2" deep I have 3 sponges in it and it's full to the brim!!! Guess I'm just gonna go with what I've got.

I guess it's just cause it's my first time but I'm constanly checking on the eggs, just sit there and watch them to see if they move and see if I can hear anything!!

Ok I missed something
Who lost 400 birds. And I dont let anyone in my aviary or my coops just because I dont want them there.Not being mean or anything but you let my birds out or hurt one could cost me ALOT.
What is newcastle disease.
Also have a npip ?
Do they catch and check every bird you have or do you have to cage them to get tested.That could take me weeks.But I think I am going to have to get it done.


Eastercreek I have ee and am but not npip either.Have you been to Hilltop feed store I sell alot there and would give you a chick lol
 
Yea but I have like a couple hundred.Seiously.
I am not sure I could catch enough of them without causing one heck of a ruckus

I said that he came over to my house on Friday and told me the story. Now, I'm scared because and I really don't want him coming over and possibly leaving something on his shoes, etc that could harm my animals. I don't want any diseases transmitted to my birds and then I possibly would have to cull my entire flock.

As far as NPIP...... They test a percentage of your adult birds. It's best to keep them contained the night before, so when the vet gets there, you won't have to catch any and they can begin the testing. I think that's what most of us did.

lamike, when they came out, i had about 180 total (chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, peas). They only tested about 60. They didn't test any geese or my 2 male peas at the time. The peacocks weren't old enough and the geese are too mean to strangers.

But they did test a percentage of chickens, ducks and turkeys. It took about 2 hours if I remember correctly. I kept all of the chickens in their coops the night before and took them out 1 by 1. Then I just caught the ducks with a net. The turkeys are tame, so I just walked up to them and picked them up.

lamike, how many of your birds are over the age of 1 year old? depending on that number, the number that they will test may be different than mine.
